2003 24 valve vs 1998 24 valve? MPG?

I was wanting to know if anyone knew the difference in MPG. I had a 1998.5 24 valve with auto tranny & 4.10 gears. On its best day it only got 14 MPG. I was wondering if the 2003 with same set up would do any better? Any thoughts?

Re:2003 24 valve vs 1998 24 valve? MPG?

I run in the high teens and low 20's with an 03 automatic on the highway, and in the 15 range pulling a heavy equipment trailer with the OD shut off. The 03 HO 6 speed is running right about 17.5 on the highway and 12 pulling hard, but it is now converted to a 12 valve with dual turbos - more power means more fuel. It used to get in the 21 range empty on the highway and around 15.5 with a 21,000 lb beavertail equipment trailer before I "fixed" it.

Whatever, they sure beat my wife's Expedition. It only gets 13 on a good day running empty, and I towed with it once and got all of 7 and no power.

Re:2003 24 valve vs 1998 24 valve? MPG?

My average MPG* on 3 Ram CTD's:

'96 = 20 MPG
Reg. cab LB, 4x4, 4.10's, 5-speed, 35" tires

'98 = 18 MPG
Quad cab SB, 4x4, 3.55's, Auto, 35" tires

'03 = 19.7 MPG (and still rising)
Reg. cab LB, 4x4, 3.73's, 6-speed, 35" tires

* w/50/50 city/highway driving unloaded. MPG approx. 40% lower when loaded/towing near capacity. MPG calculated the old-fashioned way - not by computer. All calculations include correcting for bigger tires.
