Tried the 8 year/136000 mile Cummins Warranty and denied!!
I am siding with rebatts on this one. i too would be mad as heck if i dropped $1000 to fix a problem, to find out that it didnt fix the problem and i need to fork out another $2000 to maybe fix the problem again.
also the fact that they told him that there isnt a way to test the IP with out replacing the LP is a big load of BS. there is no reason that they had to replace the LP, even if it was bad, to test the IP. they could easily have hooked up a 12 volt external LP to test the IP with and completely by pass the stock LP.
that would have been the right way to diagnose the problem. oh wait i forgot, the tech at the dealership is too stupid to properly diagnose a problem like a diesel shop would, the tech is only smart enough to change parts.

...simply playing the odds based on the years of technical experiences over the years (azz kickins!). Believe me....my diagnostic abilities on the VP system are much more finally tuned than they were in 98-99. If you go to the bar every saturday night and get in a fight, sooner or later you need to decide to A: quit going to the bar...or B: find a way to kick some butt. Of course even after you "kick butt" on a regular basis, sooner or later something small comes along and brings you down

my point is....if you cant tell.....is that YOU arnt the only one who knows these things..

..that shop KNOWS how to properly diagnosis the porblem...they just would rather take the easy route and wipe their hand of the problem while makeing a quick 1000....it is the way of the world....do the least amount of work for the most gain.....we all do it....and we all complain about it..my problem is why do auto shops FIX THINGS TO FAIL.....and then tell you well its mechanical things break......
ok...i will give an anology....my dentist puts a filling in....he tells me the precautions...no hot, no cold, no hard chewing, chew on the side of the mouth that doesnt have the filling...and on my way i go.....he DOENT expect to see me any time soon...he KNOWS he did the right job the first time...if he feels it needs to be CROWNED he doesnt do a 500 dollar filling and tell me well we can get away with that..and when it crumbles he says now that will cost you another 2500 for that crown....the reason i used this is because the MOUTH is MECHANICAL...it breaks down.....but the people we entrust to get us going again do things RIGHT THE FIRST TIME....why cant the auto repair industry do the same.

J-body...i appericate the friendly discussion...and i hope you feel the same..i dont mean to sound like i am personally attacking you, so pleas dont feel that way....it is just that you seem to have a level head being from the industry. and maybe you cant shed some light as to why things are the way they are.
But I think you get this no matter where you go. You turn something over to a dealer and sometimes you get a good mechanic, sometimes you don't. I agree that most people just remember the bad ones. Though they're probably not the majority.
