Help My Sister. Lift pump warranty denied.

I am a 12v guy, but my sister has a 99 24v. Of course the lift pump went out after 60,000 km's (36,000 mi) but before 160,000 km's (100,000 mi). The dealer told her that there was absolutely no way that the lift part is covered after the 60,000 km's. I absolutely despise our local dealership and want them to replace it under the 160,000 "motor" only warranty. Where can I find info on the net where it actualy says that the lift pump is covered. Or is it true that they are not covered. I would like some proof to let my sister take to DC. She is way meaner than me! I checked in the warranty booklet that came with the truck and it almost seems like it is not covered. The items are vague and open to interpretation. Nothing comes up in the search...... other than 5,000 lift pump threads that make my brain hurt trying to read it all!

The lift pump is mounted on the engine and IS covered by the engine warranty, 5 years/100K miles. If you have a Cummins dealer nearby they will replace the lift pump also, under warranty.
Tell her to get on the horn and call the Dodge regional rep and yell and him about it.

Here's another number, to Cummins, where she can call and get info on who can do the fix: 1-800-DIESELS (343-7357)

My local dealer told me the same thing when I had my lift pump replaced. She got on the phone with a 600+ dollar bill and I said, "No, this is a warranty repair." she went and did some checking and found out it was. They even bought the towing to the dealer too.

Look in your Dodge warenty Book and you will see that it IS under warenty the dealer is pulling your leg.

Those SOBs. We don't have near enough consumer protection from dealers like this in Canada, but I'd tell your Dodge dealer that it had better be fixed, or you'll be talking to a lawyer and the BBB. The lift pump (fuel transfer pump) is covered by the engine warranty (its in the warranty booklet) and a good dealer would have simply replaced it without any grief at all. My local boys here keep 4 or 5 in stock at all times and will simply yank them and replace if the pumps are even marginal.

I think it's better if they replace it- chances to loose the inj. pump are good if there's insufficient pressure. And they would have to pick up on that for shure.

Personally I prefer to handle that stuff in a cool mood, not yelling. I'd just ask the dealer to call STAR or whatever they call it and give you the denial of warranty in writing. So you have proof of everything. Then you can go to the DC regional rep and ask them for reimbursement (sp?)

If you lose your temper you lose chances.

When a dealer denied me warranty work I went out to my vehicle, got a small tape recorder, went back inside and asked to have the conversation over again with the recorder running. I then turned it on, stated the date, time of day, my name and the name of the dealer. I read the paragraph out of the warranty booklet and stated that the dealer was denying me the warranty and asked the service manager to then state why he was denying the warranty. He said, "Let me look at that book. I must have been wrong when I said it wasn't covered." He got out a work order, they did the work N/C. And I left a happy camper! ;D ;D ;D

Its funny that you can hear story after story about situations like this. If the dealers knew their business like they should, we wouldnt have situations like this and we would likely all be happier knowing we can get legitimate problems repaired.

I believe the Cummins engine warranty covers "all internally lubricated parts". The transfer pump most definitely covers this, enough said about that. I would like to point out that my dealer has the (2) best guys in the valley (service writer / Tech). They do not give me any stuff for anything, and are always willing to do whatever needs to be done. I even printed out a bunch of TSBs from www.alldata.com and had them do the items I felt needed to be done. I guess I wanted to point out that all dealers are not bad. With the competitive marketplace for diesel trucks, you would think all dealers would go out of their way to accomodate their customers. I for one would go to my dealer to buy a truck or car even if it was more expensive due to their level of customer service. I think DC should quit crucifying their good dealers and support them in their attempt to help the customers. The job they save may be their own. LE

If at all possible, establish a relationship with your service writer before you actually need warranty work. Take you rig in for oil changes etc, and talk with these people. Get a feeling of where they are coming from ahead of time. Even talk about the MMA (US Federal Warranty Law) and see what they say. If they get to know you ahead of time and learn that you are not going to be easily pushed around, the funny tricks may not happen. Study the warranty section of your owners manual also, so you are armed with correct information on what is covered and what is not.

Lastly and then I will step down - If you bomb the living heck out of your rig, do not expect DC to pick up the tab for stuff that broke because of what you did. To me, removing your bombs before going to the dealer for work, in an attempt to hide what you've done is Flat out Fraud!! Dealers have been burned before. Ya I know, they have a bad reputation, but at least try to meet them in the middle. "IF YOU PLAY, EXPECT TO PAY!!!

the strange thing is that that the dealer is paid by doge to do that work. All they are saying is that are too lazy to bother,or thir wives and the husbands had the same last names b4 they got married.
Its not like the warrentee work is being done for free so really ther is no favor being granted.
this just seperates thegood from the ugly.
I think we should post the good and the bad and treat them accordingly. 8)

True, the dealers do get paid for the warranty work they do, but at a reduced rate from their normal fees. My point was, if you need warranty work, it is better to have a good working relationship with the ones that have to do it, than to be adversaries.
