Not switched but I havehad both trucks..... I would go with the 3.55 gears over the 4.10's any day unless I pulled a 20K load on a routine bassis.

i was wanting to change them because it always seems like at 55 either towing or empty expecialy towing its always between 5th and 6th 6th is good but hit any kind of hill and your either lugging it or down shifting and reving the crap out of it i was just wondering if the 4.10's would give me a happy middle i know @ 80 with the 4.10's it will be screaming but i know how to fix that

4.10's will be very similar to driving in 5th gear on a 6spd. If you're doing 55 in 6th and drop to 5th, you'd only be running around 2200 rpm. And thats if you have 31" tall tires. Less if you have bigger ones.

I'm thinking about the us gear under drive but it is very expensive, but so is a gear change. I dont need any more overdrive than I already have just lower gears for towing. The us gear splits all gears foward and reverse if I understand it right. I'm not sure how 1st under would work though you have to be moving in order to shift. If it worked smooth and was reliable I would probably do it. It seems the perfect choice to me 3.55 & 4.10 all in one, but who knows.

they make a over and under drive. i want the over drive so you get double iverdrive ive done the math it puts you around 1700 rpms @70mph woth 4.10's i was thinking 4.10's would make it easier and funner to drive and use then have the low cruse rpm's to. i already have a 4.10 gear set so wont have to but one. plus with a 4.10 i can ger a detriot locker and get rid of the junk dodge posi.

I test drove a 2001 6 spd w/ 4.10s comp box and ats 4" exhaust before I bought mine and it was unreal. That is the kind of pulling power I want. But I sure like the way mine cruzes down the hwy. I think 4.10 would be great for city driving, which is what I do mostly. Does anybody have any experience with a us gear under or over drive. Do they last, work smoothly & split all gears as advertized. Im not sure but would 4.10s with your tire size be like a 3.73 set up with factory tires. If your runnin 3.54 now with 33" tires, that might be like a 3.30 something gear.

I have had the combo that you have and the 4:10 is way to low by its self so I installed the US Gear overdrive and on a heavy pull with 15000 trailer the US Gear would overheat because it don't have enough oil in it the Gearvenders has the same problem but is not as strong as the US Gear I have a US Gear in my Chevy that I have installed a Cummins 5.9 in that is around 300 HP and 650 lbs torque and it works flawless. My 98 that had the 4:10 gears had 420 HP one friend told me he could really feel the HP but they sure had short legs. And you can shift the US Gear while sitting still.

I have had both gear sets and I liked my 4.10s better I only drive 70 tops and with a little taller tire on the 2500 truck 70 was at 2100 rpm with a five speed and I could tow any thing I wanted and never have to come out of fith gear.

Check these guys out. They have a 3.73 for the Dana 80. I don't know what the cost is but they seem reasonable on other things.

I went from 4.10 to 3.54. I was 2000RPM at 60. I held my speed to 60 mph on the freeway both for mpg and engine life. At the same time I went from stock to jammer 4's. I would have went 3.31 if they had not been $800 for a gear set. And only Dana made them. With the 3.54 and the 235/85R16 tires I'm pretty close to where I want for highway speed, 75 at 2100. With the power mods I have way more then enough power to do anything I need. With heavy loads I have to watch my EGTs. Empty I can't get EGTs even close to being an issue.

I have my posi carrier and two 4.10 gear sets if you need parts.
