code ?

Hi I got a question about some codes I have on my truck 02 h.o.
Today I noticed a surge when driving at steady to low load on the highway.
I did the three key thing and two codes pcu 1693 and ecu 0216.
Thanks for any help.

Long and short the 216 is the kiss of death for the VP. Sorry for the bad news.

That what I was not wanting to here. Thank you. It only has 49k but I guess it can happen at any time. Well time to start saving.

I had the same codes

Mine was doing the same thing and I checked the codes with the smarty and got the same codes. My truck has 59K on it and it is still under warranty. I was running on level 3. I cleared the codes and reprogrammed the ecm back to stock. I drove the truck 50 miles this morning, and the code did not return. I reprogrammed the ecm now to level one and I'll see if it will come back again with some added timing.

I guess my question is, how should I proceed? Just bring it to the dealer (reprogram to stock of course) and say thta it had the kiss of death code and see if they will replace it? Will they even if the code is not coming back? If I get it to set a code while on a catcher program should I clear ithe codes so there is no footprint of the smarty? Or won't that matter? Can they simply test the pump and see if it is bad? My fuel pressure gauge replaced the stock banjo fitting on the IP that has the test fitting on it, will this cause any warranty problems?

I am going on a 700 mile trip with the family pulling the 5th wheel in a couple of weeks, so I don't want this rearing it's ugly head miles from home.

Any help would be appreciated....

Help!

Well, I got an appointment to bring it into the dealer. He said he has one in stock if it needs it.

Hopefully they won't jerk me around and just replace the darn thing. I have had a dead pedal with it 2x now where at half throttle it will go no faster when pushed to the floor. That is considerd dead pedal right? Once I got home and cleared the codes, it did not dead pedal again.

Another question I had, is if mine is an HO doesn't it require a different pump then the standard non HO?

Thanks,

Yes, your HO has a different VP44 than an SO. And I would not expect a dealer to do a warranty VP44 replacement on your word with no codes present. As far as they are concerned, if there are no codes, there are no VP problems. Be sure not to erase it next time! You may want to verify when your warranty expires, also. I assume you have the 5 year/100k?

Thanks for the input. I bought the truck in July of 2002 so it looks like it has another month of warranty. I thought that when I bought it though that the saleman told me that the engine had a 10 yr 100,000 mile warranty?

Anyhow, I can't get it to set a code with the stock program. Sunday, it dead pedaled on sw#3 me when I got on it hard and yesterday it did it again when I went to pass a slow vehicle. I guess I should program it again and try to get it to set a code again? I just wanted to see if it would come back. I will be really torqued if this thing goes out just after warranty and I have less than 60K on the truck. I work for a filter company, and this thing has had an endless supply of fuel filters since it was new.

Uh, I have never heard of that specific warranty.....there is no 10 year powertrain warranty that I'm aware of?! Regardless, of what anyone has told you (including a DC salesman), your warranty info in the owners manual package will tell you everything you need to know but you may have to call the dealer with your VIN to get the exact in service date if it hasn't been recorded in the warranty package.

I would suggest that if you have a monthe left of warranty that you wait to see if the 0216 DTC reappears....if it doesn't, then load the Smarty settings and get the 0216 to trigger. At this point, you will have nothing to lose if they detect some fueling that is out of stock parameters. My bet is they will not detect anything out of the ordinary in the case of the Smarty and will be forced to recognize the existance of the 0216 DTC before the warranty expires - Just make certain that it is documented in the diagnoses work order!
