I have a code
Put the truck on a computer yesterday pulled code #p1693 off of it what does it mean? I tried the page in the tech fact but couldn't get it to load.

Re:I have a code
The P1693 is a companion code,
when a code gets set in the PCM (usually accompanied by the "Check Engine" light) it also gets set in the ECM.
Think of the PCM as the Dodge computer, and the ECM as the Cummins computer.
PCM=Primary Control Module
ECM=Engine Control Module
That means that you had another code at one time in the PCM, but it has since been reset, usually because what caused the code was fixed, or fixed itself.
For some reason it didn't get reset in the ECM
You will need to have it reset by someone with a DRB scan tool.
Either the Dealer, or most Autozones can do this.

Re:I have a code
If I understood correctly today,the 1693 code is the DC computer telling the Cummins computer,BAD BOY. It is on a lot of our trucks. Most times don't mean much,but if like mine combined with a 0216 means that I will be darn awful poorer next tue if Bosch has a recon to ship

Re:I have a code
My 1693 was reset by un-hooking the batteries and hooking them back up. I had 0500 also. Both gone after battery hookup. Not sure if this works on all trucks or if it really removed the codes but they dont show up in the speedo readout anymore.

The ECM (Cummins computer), keeps the codes until someone with the special tool resets them. I am not sure if this applies to all codes, or just the "BAD BOY" codes you can trigger when putting bombs on the truck.<br><br>Chris

Re:I have a code
Disconnecting the batteries will clear a 1693 and 0500 code. But, on mine they always come back. I got tired of disconnecting my batteries, so now I just leave em there

From what I understand, the 1693 comes up whenever you plug in a fueling box. [/quote]
Not true. I do not have P1693 and I have a fueling box, but I know I can set it because I have before intentionally. I do have a problem keep the P0500 off there due to the tirespin i encounter.

Re:I have a code
On mine,unhooking the battries erased all of the codes,until I started it. Mine has the 0216 which will trigger the 1693 as it was explained to me. I need an ij pump and Bosch is not being to expedient. May jus have to pay the $$$$$ and go to Cummins. I;ve already lost a lot more than the extra cost. May you all have better luck than I am. :'( :'(
