late model filter setup

Could I swap out a 2000 or newer filter setup on a 99. I would much rather remove the filter from the top. I'm sure it would bolt up, then maybe change a few lines, but what about the electrical conections for the WIF and heater unit? Just curious. I bet Daimler wants some $$$ for a new one so I'll try and find a used one if its possible.

Re:late model filter setup

Still curious about this issue. I really want to install a top loader fuel filter canister and went to Dodge for pricing. They were willing to be very reasonable but they didn't know if my trucks electronics could power (use) the WIF and heater/thermostat in the newer housings. I'm not worried if they will plug right in...I could make that happen. I just didn't know how much different the WIF and heater/thermostat circuits were. Any one able to help me?? Thanks so much in advance.
