Wider front tires for late-model 3500 CTD 4x4?
I've got an '02 3500 4x4, and I take it off road a lot in sand and rocks and sometimes snow. Right now I'm running 255-85 tires front and rear, but I don't like how the heavy CTD buries the front tires in the soft stuff, or knocks them around on the rocks. I need to go with a wider tire up front, if possible.

So my question is how and what. I've heard that rims from a 2500 will fit the front of a 3500. Is that true for the '02 3500? What kinds of modifications are necessary? And probably more important, is there a wider tire size with a diameter to match the 255-85's I'll keep running in the back? Haven't been able to find that information, even at the popular online tire sites.

Thanks. Ascraeus

While pluggin' around, I wasn't able to find a "perfect" match for what you are looking for, but I got close. I am not sure if it will fit on your wheel, but a 305/70/16 is pretty close in diameter and about 2" wider. I think you can fit it on a 7" rim, since my buddy had a set on the stock 2500 wheels. You may have some slight rubbing on full lock turn, but nothing major. Check it out and see what you think.
