Who has an aftermarket locker/posi????????

My rear dif is toast. The carrier bearings are all done carrying the carrier.

My diff is an open/normal type, and I really don't like it. Who has an aftermarket locker of some sort, and what are your thoughts on it? Should I just get an oem limited slip? I really don't like the problems I hear about chattering & additives & stuff. If some extra money falls from the sky, then I might put an end to my open situation. Thanks

Re:Who has an aftermarket locker/posi????????

I run an Auburn in my shorty Chevy pickup. I would guess it's in the 500hp range with a supercharged 350. It hooks like a spool but will allow a pretty tight turn radius without chattering. Much quieter than the Detroit in my dads hotrod also. I've abused it pretty badly and it still works great. If I ever brake my stock LS, I would replace it with an Auburn or a detroit.

FROM THE FACTORY the O.E.M. limited slip is a good deal, but you would have to be crazy to put in a brand new O.E.M. unit after the fact. There are substantially better limited slip units out there like an Auburn that would probably be cheaper than a new O.E.M. unit.

Re:Who has an aftermarket locker/posi????????

I had one in a Furd many years ago, seems like $ 750 installed if memory serves.
I hope someone with more recent experience chimes in.
If you have never driven a locker they can be unnerving on the pavement, but they can't be beat off road.

I believe when I bought it, I paid 400ish<br>It really is a good set up. Check Jegs and Summit, can't remember for sure where I got mine.... (early senility)

Re:Who has an aftermarket locker/posi????????

If you pull alot or put much weight on the assend, dont go with a detroit. A detroit will start to break things when you add alot of weight. On my old F350, I put a detroit in the sterling axle, and pulling my 5er, I snapped the shaft right past the splines. It really binds up. If you really want to put in a traction aid, if you can afford it go with an arb air locker or wait like myself for the detroit electric locker. An air locker will cost you for a dana 80 around 650 bucks. Probably the same for a dana 70. Hope this helps.
