What compliments do you expect the 6.5L GM to give the 12v CTD???
I hope it compliments it by being better then popular opinion lol. Just need a rig to haul the family and the camper and this is faster then swapping.

$2,000 for a KJ CRD might have been a real good deal - depending on mods, mileage and rust.

I bought mine from the insurance company after dad totaled it hitting a deer with less than 100K on it (the Jeep, not the deer). While I had the front end off I decided to go ahead and replace the timing belt. While I was doing that I decided to go ahead and replace the glow plugs and promptly snapped the first one off so then off came the head. So while I had that off I decide to replace the exhaust valves and rockers... Two years later I'm finally driving it out of that rabbit hole.

Hmm, straight piped huh? I like how Kubotas sound... another rabbit hole...

so there is a steel braided line running from the vacuum pump to the block on my truck. What is it doing, oiling the pump or supplying vacuum to the block?

That is the oil inlet line for the pump.
From there the oil goes into the timing case and back to the oil pan.

Finally found some 9/16 nc x fine studs for the dana 60 front passenger leaf spring. I couldn't find 5" or longer studs anywhere local. Found them on ebay for $30. Pulled the grade8 bolts I had in there temporarily this morning and put the studs in.

I replaced my intermittently working brake vacuum booster with a napa reman, and also installed a new master cyclinder I had sitting on the shelf. Bled the crap out of everything about 2k miles ago and adjusted the rear drums. I'm getting draggy brakes and poor pedal return. Bad booster?

I think I know exactly what the problem is. You need to adjust the rod length of the rod that accuates The master cylinder. If it doesn’t come as a matching set the rod is almost always adjusted short at the factory for obvious reasons. There is a good generic instructive video on utube I’ll try to find it. I just went through this on a friend’s car...Mark
There is a generic how to on utube here is a screenshot

it explains the adjustment at about 4 minutes in...

Thanks Mark! I'll get to use my depth mic finally. I rough measured the old booster rod to the new, but who's to say if it was ever right or the master cylinder hole was the same depth.

new calipers for the front are on the way as well as new front hardware and local shop is making me braided lines to replace all my rubber. Its all original looking and after 380k, its time.

Hauled several loads of hay finally. Probably 5-6 tons at a time not counting the gooseneck trailer. Man that motor sounds good under a load...

My CTD is a piece of junk- I got the junk at a good price, not complaining, I basically bought a decent frame, axles, tires, wheels motor and flat bed. Everything else is complete and utter junk. It actually started out life as a tow truck. Then, it was sold to a fisherman, that was about 5' tall local kine Asian guy that pretty much destroyed the trans, seats and cab hauling a boat. So what did I do to my CTD today? OMG, the list is too long. today, just trying to start it. After basically 6 months of doing nothing to it but letting it sit due to business and Covid, I need my truck back. Found a cab, which is great. PM'd Oliver foster for the parts I will need right away. Shipping to Hawaii not a great fun thing to do FYI. Sigh.

Well, all the important parts are good then - sans tranny & brakes, but those are easy fixes/upgrades.

So you commute from Alaska to Hawaii???

What o-ring do I need for the pressure hose for the power steering. Resevoir side, pretty sure that is where the disappearing fluid is slipping out.

Took the 1st gen line up officially off the road for the winter as we got 6-8 inches of snow a few days ago and the salt trucks where out in places.
I have some pre winter work to do on the old 1st gen yard plow as the d-shaft sounds like a U-Joint is going out on the rear.

Hopefully we'll be able to store up enough food and fuel to keep warm and fed during snow days in Oklahoma. I need to find a good diesel generator since the house is all electric.

I started power washing off the 1st gens and storing them in the pole barn or shop for the winter.
Poncho got a bath yesterday and tucked away in the pole barn, after a letting the fuel system mix the heavy shot of Power Service out of the white jug around, by running it. That will help if I need to fire it up to move it during the dead of winter and it has been -20F out.

Vern's old W-250, the '89 12V powered Ramcharger and the white crew cab are on the list for today. As they all saw a little back dirt road time on rainy days over the summer.
It is always nice to have a cleanish under side of a rig to work on in the winter.
Running the garden hose outside will be a thing that if not be possible here shortly, for many months.

They are calling for 71F up here today, quite the change from 4 days straight of snow last week and a low of 15F at night.

It got down to 51 here in SoCal last night. It's 57 here now. I'm going to freeze my tookas off in Oklahoma.

71 sounds like a nice spring day. I'm having second thoughts about having livestock. Chickens can be OK but I draw the line at frozen eggs. I like to stay in bed under the electric blanket until noon.
