Just keep a heat lamp going in the chicken coup.

We are dipping into some cold temps last few days day time highs of -3*C and nights down in the -10*C range, they have been calling for snow but no new snow since the middle/end of October

Thanks for the advice. I know very little about raising chickens but I figure it will be cheap to try. My grandparents and parents knew this stuff but I had no interest.

I don't know how you guys survive up there in Canada. We went out today and it was windy and about 60 degrees and I was cold. The first thing I do is get the heater going in the garage in Oklahoma when we get there.

Woke up today and it was snowing hard with a couple inches on the ground, 90 minutes later and it's up to almost 4 inches!

Yeah we had chickens growing up....stupid creatures, but they are tasty and produce yummy eggs. When the weather was forecast to be really cold, snow or even super rainy we would chase them into the coup and then close off their access to outside. We lost plenty of chickens over the years to shear stupidity...stare up into the rain and snow then die from exposure! When it got cold we would toss on the heat lamp, usually over where they would roost....raised 2x2's off the floor a foot or two, or around the egg laying nests...usually half dozen stacked boxes with a slight lip on the front, built out of plywood and again raised off the ground.

A friend of mine says he puts hard corn in his horse feed. The chickens then scatter the horse manure to get the corn.

Raising chickens is like growing potatoes - a lot cheaper if you just go to the store & buy them outright. Having said that I grow both, mainly so I know what I'm eating AND I know I can just step outside and get some. Plus, both my daughters raised chickens and sold eggs as their first "job". Taught responsibility and they earned spending money (only because I paid for the feed and didn't charge rent though). I'll never forget the sense of pride they had supplying food to our table.

I wore shorts to work yesterday and plan to today as it's supposed to be 80*, unusual even for KY. Looking at the long term forecast it's supposed to be mild here for the rest of the month. I need to pull the truck in the shop and start on the kingpins, axle u-joints, rotors & calipers R&R.

Hey Edwin, just keep the chickens in the house with you, problem solved...

The chickens might object to the noise and the smell, but we all have to make our sacrifices to live together, right?......Ben

The SPCA might object to that as well. Our kitty might have fun though.

got the new snail in the mail today! have the rest of the intake parts coming in the mail to bolt it all together. the old h1c had some play in the impeller shaft and i didnt want to risk it hurting the engine. the very first thing i did when i got it out of the box, was remove the silencer ring.

The 1st gen has officially gone into permanent retirement, its been a great truck and has never let me down in the 8 years I have had it, but it really needs all the TLC I can give it. We found this rust free 09 Laramine to take its place. Truck has ALOT of miles but based on the overall condition and the carfax, it was very well taken care of. It has been deleted but I have no idea if there is a tune on it but the price was right. This truck will stay stock otherwise.
