why not adapt different style of mirror head onto the existing brackets....would keep you from having to drill new holes in your doors. Or look for some of the old style tow mirrors...IIRC they would hook onto the fender lip and the top of the fender under the hood..they were meant for temp use when pulling a trailer. I remember Dad using a set on our family '69 Monaco.

I have considered the clamp on, temporary versions (and I’ve found them fairly cheap locally), but I do need a mirror upgrade since the ones I have are a pain to see out of, even without a trailer. My mirrors bounce on the freeways and at an idle. Just haven’t found any other mirror heads that are taller than they are wide. I’d prefer something in stainless, chrome or aluminum, that can extend out, and swing in if they get bumped or pushed by hand. What other options are there? I can fabricate and weld, but I prefer not to do body work and paint on the doors. Hmmmm. Anyone have any pictures of good looking tow mirrors? I haven’t found too many options, or maybe I’m not looking hard enough.
That’s all I can find right now, but I really like the ones across the hood. They look like they would maybe not be too hard to remove. The stock mirrors on these trucks barely allow you to see a little behind the truck.
I do like these, but I would like to bring them in when I’m not towing. Probably the best looking option yet. I still need more holes to mount the newer style bases, which isn’t too big of a deal.

Just have a set of stock arms for when your not going to be towing....would only take 30 min to swap them.
I've given thought to trying to adapt newer Chevy tow mirrors to the factory bases.
If you get that figured out, please do a thread on it and share it with us here. That would be sweet! I wonder if you could carefully trim away the plastic that fits the contour of the window area, and make it work in the stock mounting location. If the wing windows weren’t such a part of the truck I would consider just replacing it with a piece of metal. That way if I ever wanted to go back all that would have to be done: would be to put the glass back in. Maybe that would shake too much though.
Well, I picked up a set of mirrors for $30 last night. The mounts don’t stick out as far as I thought they would, compared to the Ford style mirrors. I think I’ll go ahead and mount them. Hopefully I can find a clean set of early doors. If I find some West Coast style mirrors, I may try those too, or maybe something custom down the road. When I’m happy with whichever style, I’ll swap in the “new” doors and paint them to match.

A lot of us here are lost for mirror options. Something that looks like it could have been factory, instead of an after thought, is the key here. I could get creative with sheet metal screws and a tube of monkey snot, but a little form mixed with function is a better choice.
You spin those mirrors to the outside and they will be great for towing. Get a couple small convex mirrors to add to the lower corner of each mirror will help too.
I like that style, I have some on my '77 W200 with some round fisheyes mounted below.
Are you just trying to see the trailer wheels and watch the trailer in turns or more? You could mount one of those backup cameras on the back of the trailer too maybe to help with backing up.
Loaded up my trailer, and went to the dump. Fun place if you love mud, and stanky garbage. That must bet where Freight train got beat . I didn't see the guy there, but maybe he was hiding under a pile?
Plowed another 5-6" of snow today....that's now over 3 feet in the last 2 weeks! Think the old solenoids on the plow motor are starting to weaken...not always responding to the switch inside the cab, sometimes had to give it 2 or 3 attempts before it would raise or angle the plow blade. With the amount of work old Sno-ball has had to do this winter I think I can afford to splurge on some new parts.
Finally figured out where the transfer case shifter rattle was coming from on Ol' Patches.....turns out the shift pattern medallion had come loose and was rattling in the shifter ****. It was getting pretty annoying.
