Ever auto to manual conversion I do, I have to re-route a bunch of stuff from that grommet hole.
Ahh. That one! My plans for a manual swap is exactly why I was planning to drill a hole and put another grommet in.

I decided that I should do the Edwin, before hauling a trailer across the country. Serviced the rear end with a fresh gasket and fluid. And just for Tman, I made sure the breather is open too!

Another guy with his finger in the rear end again.
Way to go with a fresh gasket and everything!

How was the old fluid?

I figure that it’s easier to get rear end lube while I’m still in California, and I haven’t even filled up the fuel tank yet, so I needed some fresh stuff before hitting the road . The old fluid was a little darker than honey, but black if you wipe your finger on the diff. Magnet wasn’t too bad either. Someone must have changed the fluid, since the donor had 280k on it before I cut it up. Now let’s see if I can make 8,500+ miles without any issues (fingers crossed).

If you're passing through NJ, and need a hand, give a shout out. I'll be glad to do what I can.

If you do come here, make sure you bring your respirator. The air here is a little dirty from all that PA Garbage burning they do daily..

lol

Thanks, but if I make it to PA, I passed my destination in Mountain Home Arkansas by a long shot. I’m sure there will be a trip that way in my future though, I can’t help but find more projects, or parts trucks.

I still haven't felt up to crawling back under the truck to check my vent. Even if the seal isn't damaged I'll have to take the left hub off to clean the oil out. Thank God for Brake Cleaner.

I'm still trying to figure out if there is a t piece style seal for it. I'm thinking if I get the diameters I may be able to find one that way. Apparently the dually rear axle has a larger seal due to larger more heavy duty bearings etc...

Edwin

Its 8,500. miles. He's driving to Guatemala to pick up a shipment of cocaine and heroin, then heading back to the Ozarks.

Long, but profitable trip

Well, I was planning on leaving at 3am Commiefornia time, but I couldn’t sleep, so I hit the road at midnight. Made a couple of early atops just to check fluid levels. Saw a 53 footer on fire at the base of Cajon Pass, on I-15. The tractor had already dropped the trailer so the driver was out of harm’s way. Pushing it pretty hard but all is going well. 9.5 MPG from Riverside CA, to Flagstaff AZ. Brought along a handy infrared digital thermometer (harbor freight) for checking trans, transfer case, diffs and wheel hubs. So far, everything is running cool. “On the road again....”

$3.11 for #2 in Flagstaff
