When I was much younger in the 70's I worked for the country as a diesel mechanic and in our division you could stack 32- 50' transit coaches at one time, tune ups and inspections were brutal, doing free and stalls on the engines.

I would be either in or under the coach with the muffler removed, some were 903 Cummins but most were screaming Detroit 8V-71 8V-92TA.'s

I lost about 60% of my hearing in the 1000_5000hz range and I wore hearing protection.

Even now my ears ring all the time.
Even with hearing protection, loud high decible sounds does damage to your nervous system.

Sound damage seems to be a common theme around here.

Mine is controlled by how much salt intake I have. The more salt I eat, the worse it gets. The same goes for not wearing hearing protection now, for even one swipe of a saw. I'll pay for that for days, but eventually it fades a bit and becomes livable.. which sounds like a "sssssssssssss" noise all the time, vs a very loud version of it.

I've been diagnosed with Meniere's disease, but have zero other symptoms, so I'm ruling that one out, Dr. stupido.....

Ménière's Disease-Topic Overview

Mine must not be as bad as others here, as as long as I don't subject myself to loud noises, or eat too much extra salt, I'm okay with it.

There is a device like a hearing aide that uses white noise to help mask the sounds that you hear, have you looked into them?

If I take too muck aspirin or certain meds it gets so loud I swear others can hear it.
I always have a fan on to help muff out the sound at night so I can try to sleep.
Another thing that muffs my ears is shooting my H&K from inside a house.

Mine doesn't drone at all at any speed or gear.
Must be something about the drivetrain having a direct connection.

Since the pipe is at the back of the truck, once I go past the speed of sound I can't hear it anymore.

Now that Edwin, made me chuckle...

I started wearing hearing aids in one ear in my 30s. Then got the new & improved digital ones at around 50. Some noises I can't hear at all, like certain screeches and whines. And certain voices, usually a women's (honestly). I usually only wear them if I have meetings to go to etc.
And the tinnitus goes up & down like you all describe but I've not correlated it to anything yet, but I will start and try to associate it with a food or drink or whatever. At least mine sounds like crickets and peepers most of the time so it is not as irritating.

I finally got my lazy but out and washed the truck. It hasn't rained in months so the smog was piling up on the hood. It got a boost on July 4th from all the sulfur smoke from the fireworks. I still hear a firecracker go off every day or so.

Anyway the truck is mostly white again and I need to get some touch up paint for the several dings I've accumulated. I still have some epoxy paint left over so I'm wondering if I should sand and repaint the front fenders.

Does anyone know a good brand of touch up paint that comes in a bottle with a brush like fingernail polish? I hate that crap that comes in a can and has felt tip like a marker.

Peepers? What do those sound like? 35 + years of construction I hear cicadas all the time so that when we get cicadas I can't hear them. I hate those @#$%&, do a lot of damage to my young trees. I also hear cheeps, like from a small bird, some times. When that happens I can feel it in the inner ear, annoying.

Peepers are little frogs. We have tons of them, especially around the pond. They kind of chirp I guess. Or "peep".
