You must have seen my thread from when I first replaced my head gasket back in 2009. That's when everything on mine went to Hemi Orange. Thief!

4. pull the IP gear
5. re-install IP gear by lining up the "C" and the "O"

am i tracking?
You're tracking. Only thing I would change is to pull the gear before loosening the pump mounting bolts just to ensure nothing moves. It probably really doesn't matter at that point. It's only what I would do but there shouldn't be a problem with your sequence.

They are for crankcase ventilation. Breather filters bolt to the tops of them and allow any oil vapor caught in the element to drain back into the engine once condensed.

It might be. There is a way to test them. I havent done it for years so I rightly don't remember the process.

Drained 7.5 gallons of diesel/15w40 out of the crankcase...

Have a new LP being delivered Tuesday and hope it's not the injection pump which I just resealed about 1,000 miles ago.

Man, that sucks.......

On the bright side, the inside of the engine is probably cleaner than ever...

Well, since it's not in the truck yet, I can still claim that this is 1st gen related! Haha. Prepping the 12v for the swap project. Did a little grinding on the stock pin, installed 3200 spring, 2 turns in on the fuel screw, 3 turns up on the starwheel, smoke screw flush, flipped the idle screw around for easy adjusting, drilled and tapped afc cover for 1/8" npt elbow, skipped a tooth on the pump gear, tabbed kdp, loctite on case bolts, new front seal, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, fuel heater delete nipple. Then just stripped everything off to prep it for pressure wash and paint today.

Funny,

I don't look anything like that caveman dude. I'm more the old long haired hippie type.

Funny, though.

well today i actually took the pin back out and ground it to match the aftermarket pin in my 93. or as close to the same profile as i could get eye-balling it. i used a file, emory cloth, and wire wheel to polish it afterwards. didn't think to take any pictures. i was initially afraid of going too deep until i compared it to the other pin. it's still a very moderate, flat ramp design, just takes more advantage of the top end/full fueling

Installed a new lift pump after having 5 gallons of diesel mix with the oil.

Unfortunately it did not fix the problem apparently. I put in 2 gallons of new oil which got the oil level on the dipstick about 1" from the bottom and filled the oil filter also. After idling for 2-3 minuets then shutting off and letting it drain down while I took a shower the level is now up to the full mark

Guess I will pull the pump back off. I had just resealed it last month and have about 1,000 miles on it now since then trouble free.

Is there anywhere else diesel could be leaking into the crankcase?
The truck runs perfect. It starts immediately first crank after sitting for a week or two, doesn't smoke at all unless you floor the pedal and sounds normal like all 12V do.

This has got me pretty depressed. My pops is moving on the 20th and I told him I'd drive up to Visalia and pick up his car trailer and some lawn equipment he would have to throw away.

Anyone have a VE shaft seal for sale? Lol

The old diaphragm lift pump can leak into the crank case as well.

Remove the oil fill tube from the timing cover, then start the truck and look into the gear train with a light and mirror...you might be able to see if the front seal is leaking on the IP....if not then it would be your lift pump.

I'm pretty sure that he posted that he put a new lift pump in, and was having the same exact issue.

You may want to not brush your teeth while listening to metal from now on....

if the front seal is out, put it back in and get a big flat washer that`s the same out side diameter as the seal boss on the pump. drill 2 holes in the washer, and drill and tap holes (#8 or #10) in the seal boss to match the washer. bolt the washer to the boss with lock washers and blue loc-tite. just be sure to NOT drill all the way through the boss. there`s plenty of metal to drill 1/4 or 5/16 deep. then the seal will NEVER pop out again. there`s plenty of room behind the pump gear for the bolt heads and washer. I have done this to both of my VE pumps, for my piece of mind, when I put on piston lift pumps with 18 LB. springs in them.
