Q about pyrometer

I have searced the search button, and have found little on why so many here are installing a pyrometer in their rigs
why install one,
what is the exaust temp?? Fareinheight??
I have a stock truck, is there any reason why i would need to monitor exaust temp?
Thank you for the information
This is my first dodge diesel
I have had audi, peugeot, and mercedes diesels
Big differance here!

We like to monitor the exhaust temp in order to determine when to shut the engine off and when to let off the go pedal to keep from melting things.

even stock knowing what your EGT's are are a good thing. Some of us turn up our fuel and add things to make more HP. Still always good to know Boost, EGT, tranny temp. and fuel pressure to be on the safe side. MY 2cents.

Mine is stock(as far is fuel is concerned (fuel=power and hi egt)
and i can make it sit right at 1250* (cummins said, safe limit!!) with a trailer a am afraid that it will be even hotter then that! i pulled my car and trailer all last year and think that i have been pushing the red line(Pyro egts) all last summer! luck for me the hill that i pull is short!!!!!

In short....YES it a vary good idea!
