Testing a pyrometer probe
Testing a pyrometer probe
Is there anyway to test a probe? Mine seems to be "lazy" all of a sudden. It seems to work just fine, showing the right cruise temps and such. Cool down is another story. The guage seems to fall a little to quick to be working right.
Are these things a work or not thing or do they degrade with time. It's only about 5 months old and it seems like an overnight thing that it started acting up. I haven't had a chance to check for loose connections. Will that make a difference?
Any one got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hello Homestead

Mine has been doing the same since it got cold. It's somewhere around 20 degrees around here and it drops fast.My opinion is it's just fine but maybe someone else will chime in with there experience.
Re:Testing a pyrometer probe
I wondered if it was just the outside temperature. It has been cold here the last little while. I'll keep an eye on it for sure. Just seems strange in the way it falls so fast.

It's the outside cold. We had 5 degrees here for a few days, and my pyro fell fast, too. Then it warmed up to 50, and things were back to the way they were before. Then it fell to 5-10 again, and the pyro started falling fast.

GP
Re:Testing a pyrometer probe
I've been watching it lately and yes it's cold out, -20 celcius. But sitting at an intersection, it will drop to the peg like a rock. It does work when I pull away and at cruise speeds. Temps seem to be where they should be. Just have to wait for warm weather to see if it changes.
Re:Testing a pyrometer probe
Well, I had the rig down to BD-Power the other day to look at my EGT guage. It ended up being the guage itself. Isspro was having problems with the digital driver box for the guage and that is what was suspected. After replacing the pyro probe, driver box, checking every connection, the guage was found faulty. Now I have everything new again !! ;D Warranties are great!!

Hey, mine drops like a rock at 77 degrees outside. Rod mentioned the ISSPRO gauge is very sensitive and moves quickly. My last one was in a motorhome (CAT engine) and seemed to be quite dampened compared to this one. I come in off the interstate and it drops to 250 in about 15 seconds at idle.

Bob
Re:Testing a pyrometer probe
I have a Isspro pyro which isn't 1/10th as sensative and fast acting as the Westech it replaced. Westechs don't require 12v for the pyro operation and show temps even after the engine is shut down.
