Question Pyrometer Probe

I had a garage install my pyro probe the other day. I didn't look at it till I got home and they installed it post turbo. I called them about it and they said that where they installed it the temp. reading is the same as pre turbo. Can this be correct? I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 Diesel with auto. I have Autometer gauges.

Wrong. The temps will be 3-400 degrees lower post turbo. You could have them put a brass pipe plug in the hole they drilled and have them redo it pre-turbo. I sure would.

If you add bigger injectors down the road the difference will be closer 600 degrees.

Exactly. The difference is wildly variable during transitions.

Sometimes it may not even be 100 degrees.

Other times it's well over 500°.

Post turbo isn't that much better than none at all, because by the time it shows dangerous temps, the damage is done.

Thanks everyone. I went back to the garage this morning an told them I didn't agree with them. They are going to move the prob to pre turbo next Thursday. Will post the difference I see then.

Make sure they put it in the right spot... I've seen some places put it in the front bank of manifold.
