Big oil leak? What's going on here! Help!!

Leak. Passenger side engine compartment is covered.. low oil light. It's been 1500 miles since my last oil change and it had the KDP done about 3 k miles ago. Yes with the donaldson filter- that's the color of my oil! Got any ideas on the oil leakage? Is this a failed front seal?

What's happened?

Wow that's something you don't see everyday!!

It could be a leak from the crank, but for it to leak that much oil past the crank seal and then get past the harmonic balancer and then drawn into the fan blades to be flung around the engine compartment just doesn't seem feasible to me. I would suspect your oil feed line to your turbo, or ??

Thanks. That's what I was thinking... shop says it's dumping into the coolant system and needs a headgasket. It went really quick- there was no warning.
166k miles seems a little young, still stock timing.

What's book time to R&R a headgasket?

Michael

I would clean the engine compartment first before doing anything, I would pressure wash with simple green or equivalent and let it dry out. Then once nice and clean and dry top up your oil and fire it up and look around for your oil leak. My money is on a pin hole in your oil feed line.

There is no way that oil into the coolant could cause this....I'd want to see the oil in the coolant and have it confirmed by "us" before I went with a new head gasket.

I suspect and would be looking around and at the oil cooler / filter head package and the turbo's oil supply hose and fittings as Brian mentioned. If in fact there is oil in the coolant / coolant in the oil, pressure test the oil cooler. Replace if needed. That's a cheaper repair than a head gasket.

Oil feed line to the turbo is my guess as well.

I agree that that looks like oil spray not just fan flung. Failed cooler could mix it with coolant. Like suggested, clean it up then start it up and see what it does.

That's some really clean oil by the way, good filter!

Um, you did check to make sure you put the oil cap back on right?
