huge oil leak
huge oil leak
My 2004 ram has developed a hugh oil leak at 70000 mile I changed the oil and all was well now at 75000 when I changed it there is oil from front to back of the truck. I cleaned it all of and added some oil dye but I can't seem to pinpoint where the leak is coming from. I changed the oil thursday and it is a quart low already. It is dry around the plug and filter. It seems to be dripping the most on the passenger side need the ac compressor. I checked though the forums and the only leak I could find was the round pump cover on the driver side of the engine. I called the locale dodge dealer and the service advisor told me that oil leaks aren't coverd by the engine warrenty. Any ideas.
this will sound stupid but these things have happened to me in the past .old filter gasket stuck to block now you have two gaskets -put filter on that did not have a gasket-gasket broke -gasket twisted on filter .most of this happened with fram filters before i new better .
Yeap, sounds like a stuck o-ring gasket for the oil filter. Don't forget to use a quality filter like a Fleetguard Stratapore or a factory Mopar filter. Wouldn't use anything else. Frams filters,,, really don't classify them as filters. Pull the filter off and see if you have a extra gasket sticking to the filter housing. A good habit to get into is to wipe the filter housing with a clean cloth or paper towel before installing a new filter. You will catch that stuck o-ring every time.
