bad oil leak

posted at DR but will post here too since you guys know your stuff too...

i check my oil every week... it hasn't yet been a week. found an 8" wide puddle of oil on my garage floor this morning, checked the oil and it was 3 quarts low. i can't pinpoint the leak, looks like its coming from between the torque convertor and engine, though. truck has 14,800 miles and a stock engine. i'm taking it in wed, anyone have this happen and if so what was it?

Looks nasty. How often does that happen?

Let us know the results.

Could also be cam seal.

Doesn't happen too often, but I have seen it a few times. High crankcase pressure can affect the seal. So can a damaged crank vib damper.

That brings back memories of my Powerstroke - HPOP O rings went, and it looked like the Exxon Valdez. Needed a 30 mile tow to the dealer. Then, 5 weeks later, did it again. That was the final straw for me getting rid of that truck.

Please keeps us posted on what this is.

rear main seal would be my guess.

Isn't the cam on the cummins front loaded like all other engines?

Its your valve cover gasket, mine did the same thing and dodge replaced that and the rocker cover gasket and it is good as new.

The cam is front loaded, but there is still an o-ring that seals the rear face of the block to the rear cam journal.
