bad bad oil leak
bad bad oil leak
just today i fixed a leak on my truck, the o-ring between the powesteering pump and the vacuum pump gave out. when i put it back togetheri started getting leaks from somewhere else, i think it is coming from the dipstick tube but i could be wrong beecause there was oil everywhere. im gonna clean the engine with brake parts clceaner and then run it again. is it possible the crankcase isnt venting, what can i do about diagnosing this problem
well im not sure because i dont know what that looks like, however i was very cautious while working so i doubt i didd. but after cleaning the side of the engine i took it out for another drive but i wrapped a bunch of paper towls around the dipstick and tube to isolate them from the rest and when i got back the towel i wrapped was soaked in oil as i thought it would do.
if you're vacuum pump is leaking to the inside of your engine, it will act like a compressor forcing oil up through your dipstick into the fan, then the fan will give the engine an oil bath. Seen it a few times, very messy. Also, I've seen a 12V with a clogged blowby tube causing the same effect. you need to find out where the leak is coming from to really get a good diagnosis.

Little more explaination to marine4life. The vacaum pump pulls a vacaum to operate your vacaum powered accessories(heater controls for one) If pump can't pull adequate vacaum due to a vacaum leak it purges the air into crankcase. More than breather system of engine can handle and pressure is built in crankcase. Take oil filler cap off with engine running. Is air coming out of hole or positive pressure exist if try to block with hand?
