Is my windshield gonna crack?

So (long story) my rear view mirror fell off. bought the glue kit crap and put the metal piece back on... put the rest of the mirror on 1 hour later, and tightened it. instructions said wait 15 minutes, but i don't trust instructions on glue bottles; ask me why. i adjust it to where i like it, let go of it, and the whole thing fell off of the windshield. The mirror hit something and cracked (my luck) and when I picked it up i noticed that part of my windshield stayed with the metal part on the mirror. i worked fast to glue it back on, and it's still there, chip and all. What do you think? is my windshield gonna crack?

The last time i had that happen I just used another glue kit to glue the piece of glass back in. It never cracked.

Umm... it depends, if there is an air bubble in there it may crack with first blast with the defroster... chances are that when you re-stuck it up there you used some force and made it real nice, like one piece again. Look from the outside with a flashlight and you'll be able to see all the cracks and bubbles if there are any. I had one go from there to passengers and then down to drivers inspection stickers and cost me 225 to replace

Probably not. You have two layers of glass. Only the inner sheet is broken. Heat stress might do something but then again, you may have relieved any stress in the inner sheet. Down the road it will start to separate at the damaged spot but probably not for years.

Guess time will tell. I'm guessing that if it breaks in the near future it will be one of the next times I start it with snow on the windshield. Not gonna try to baby it though. If it cracks my insurance company will buy me a new one for free. lol

I guess I have used the glue kits more than I care to admit. I haven't had too bad of luck until this last time, but they never do last too long.

I had a Pontiac J-2000 that the same thing happened to. I just glued the button in a new spot, the windshield never cracked. Don't sweat it.
