Intercooling question

Could I take a stock intercooler off a 91.5-93 model truck and make it fit my 89 non-intercooled? If so would it make a noticeable difference in power, mileage, etc? Thanks!

Yes the 89 would virtually be the same as a 93 if you intercooled it. Power would be up, and naturally so would fuel mileage because it would take less fuel to make the same power thanks to the cooler intake air charge. I was going to swap a cooler into mine but I'm gonna get an air to water marine cooler instead... as soon as I can find one. I've still got my intercooler setup if anyone's interested

the answer is yes you can... but since you're going to have to hack the core support anyways i heard your better off to use a powerstroke cooler... someone will post the years or do a search. they are bigger than the stock 1st gen but still fit. you may need to get the newer style grill to make it work.

How much of a power and mileage increase would you guys estimate intercooling my '89 would produce? I currently get around 16mpg and my pump has been turned up 20% over stock and timed accordingly to burn the excess fuel. Thanks!

I wouldn't expect any mileage increase at all. This time of year it might even drop.

Tough to say on the power angle, it doesn't sound like yours is cranked up much. You might pick up 10 hp.

I do tow some. I do not have a set of gauges right now so I don't know any numbers on my truck. Anyone know where to to buy a good set of gauges cheap? Thanks!
