Help me tip the scales with my differential decision???

Well I have two options for my motorhome conversion. It's going to be a CTD with a 727 from a non ic 91

First I have a 14 10.5 chev with a 4.56 ratio. If I leave it in the moho then I have to change the carrier and the ring and pinion and I think I'll have to change the case as well as the 456 and up is the dividing line for the thick and thin gears. (Can someone confirm this?)

Second option is to take the Dana 70 that I have and put spacers on it to allow the duallies to fit. It seems like this axel bolts up pretty good when I look at the reversal on the "help me identify my rear axel" thread . My dana 70 has 307 gears and the correct yolk to work in the conversion. The down side is that I'll have to carry two spares. one for the front hubs (chev) and one for the rears (dodge)

Third option sugestions or TRADES???

I can't decide which system to install so feel free to chime in.

Eric

I bolt pattern is the same on both Dodge & Chevy for the 8-lugs version. You shouldn't need to cary two spares. Unless I'm missing something, they are both dually axles or will be right?

The center hole is different on the different hubs and that is what locates the wheel.

Spacers are bad. I dunno what size motorhome you have, but 3.07's sound kinda steep for one imo.

If you're not in hilly country the 3.07 rear will work OK, but I'm not keen on spacers. If you got an OD the 4.56's would work pretty well. Top speed would be around 80, but the truck should be able to maintain 65 up a pretty steep hill geared that low.

When I changed a Chevy the opposite way, 3:07 to 4:10, I had to swap carriers.

This is what I would do, in your situation.

Go ahead with the engine swap and leave the rear as is.

All it will need is a simple swap of the front drive-shaft yoke, from Chevy to Dodge.

Then, after all the little bugs are worked out of the engine swap, comb the yards for a GM rear with 3:55s.
