Hit the scales today, weight of 03 HO Ram/04 Laredo 29BH 5er

Tell me what you think abou these numbers (I think I'm OK)
Weighed the truck today
Truck had ¾ tank and the superglide 5th wheel hitch
Empty truck       &nb sp; Laredo 5th wheel all water tanks drained, full of most of our gear, (2) 30lbs LP tanks full
Front axle 4,220lbs      Front axle 4,200lbs
Rear axle 3,040lbs      Rear axle 4,680lbs   pin weight 4,680-3,040=1,640lbs (2,200lbs total payload allowed)
Total weight = 7,260lbs    Tandem axles 6,900lbs
Total combined weight 15,780lbs      Gross combination weight rating (GCWR) 20,000lbs

Info on Ram door sticker
GAWR front 5,200lbs
GAWR rear 6,000lbs
GVWR 9,000lbs
Dry weight of LAredo 29BH as built, 7800lbs
Keystone says the height of our new 2004 Laredo 29BH is
11' 6'...I measured mine at 12' ...Look at pic attached. Darn
thing wont fit in my buddies building...DOH !!!!!!!!!! His door is
11' 9".
Is 12 ft a problem for bridges/tunnels in general ?

You might want to use 13' as a rule for clearances. You need to add the height of the AC also plus give yourself about 6" just incase

Hmmm. Guess I need to measure mine. I know manufacturers sometimes play a little loose with weights but I didn't even think about the height. Last time up in the smokies I noticed several tunnels rated below 13' Would be a really bad thing to find out the hard way, especially at speed!

My fiver is 12'9" to the top of my AC. There are several tunnels in the Smokies rated less than that. Most tunnels up there are rounded. I ran down the middle of one rated at 11'6" and did fine. Luckily nothing coming from the other way. :-*
There is a Rand McNally road atlas called the Motor Carriers Guide. I found it a good investment. I plan my route, then check the atlas to make sure there are no low clearances along the route I planned. It also shows truck stops for fueling. I also use RM's trip software which will guide you around low cleanances. Between the two, it will keep you out of trouble.

Heck, there isn't a floor in that building. Just dig down about a foot and pull in. problem solved!

Buzz, I already thought of that but my buddy said NO WAY.
We are going to measure his rear door since his building goes slightly down hill towards the rear. I couldn't spend a lot of time at his place the day I dropped it off.

It would be a very tight fit turning around out the back of his building but we are going to scope that out later this week.
I'm sick about leaving my new 5er outside !!!

Another pic showing how close it is at the front door of his building.

Maybe you should ask Jamie about an air kit to lower your trailer

I'd like to see one jump side to side!!!

I have been looking for the same thing and found a setup called "CoPilot 2003". It claims to have RV-Friendly Routing. It will watch out for hight and weight restrictions as well as avoid u-turns and hard to make sharp turns. More information can be found here: http://www.alk.com/products/consumer...2003/index.asp

Hope this helps.

I question your hitch placement? You lost weight on the front axle with your 5ver hooked up and that just isn't right. The idea of the 5th and gooseneck is to get weight to the front axle. If possible you might want to move that hitch forward of the rear axle.

When I scaled with my gooseneck hooked up I had around 3,000# of pin wieght. My front axle was 4,720# loaded. I don't have an empty weight but would think it would be close to what yours is.

Also you miss calculated your pin weight. You need to take the entire GVW of the truck, that is front and rear axle, not just the rear axle weights. So you pin weight it 1,620#

Ya with the short box that can be a problem with some of the campers I have heard. It could be worse, could be a trailer hitch tryin to pick the front of the truck off the ground

Federal law is 13' 6" maximum height for antennas and such, and the minimum clearance for bridges I think.

and your 03 3.73 truck has a GCWR of 21,000 lbs, no?

Heck, my new fiver is 13 feet 2 inches according to Newmar. I do hold my breath sometimes hoping they didn't measure a few inches short. And the guy that owns my storage building says 13 feet 6 inches. I will be REAL careful backing it in for the first time this fall.
