Griffin vs Mishimoto Radiators

So I took my stock radiator to get it flushed/rodded at a radiator shop and now it has several pin holes and is junk. Never leaked but now it's messed up, SOOOO. I'm looking to upgrade and looks like Griffin and Mishimoto are the better upgrades. I do see the Griffin uses a 2 core with 1.25 inch tubes vs mishimoto 2 core 1.1 inch tubes. So Griffin has 1/4 inch larger tubes.

I'm doing some heavy hauling, so I'm hoping to get real feedback from actual owners of these radiators. Thoughts?

I bought a Liland Global aluminum radiator back 2017 for about $200. It's been fine, no problems. I was kind of pressed for time as a hurricane was approaching and that was what I could get quickest.

Leaning more to Griffin. With the 1.25 tubes vs Mishimoto 1.0 tubes. Thats 25% more tube surface for cooling than Mishimoto. But a lifetime warranty is attractive on mishimoto. But lifetime warranty is useless if it does cool as I need it to... decisions....

I used the mishimoto and I think it's a good radiator. Unfortunately I had bad "luck" with it. When I first received it and spent time installing/draining/filling all was well. Pulled into my brothers shop to show him the sweet radiator and there was a squirt gun stream coming out of the front of my truck..

I called mishimoto and they sent a new one which I swapped... put the one they sent me in and shipped the one back. Seems like this should have been tested before it even left the shop... needless to say a year or more went past and I left a hose clamp a little too long on the hose.. it rubbed a hole into the radiator which caused a substantial leak. They replaced it, no questions asked. Thumbs up to them, I think they're a darn good company to deal with and not to mention a free bottle of chill which was a coolant they had on promo at the time.

As far as performance I've had no issue either, temps are cooler than my old spectra rad even when towing 6,000lbs it seems to be a great rad overall.

i ordered the Griffin on Aug 2. 1.25 inch tubes vs 1.1 on Mishimito, but Im still waiting on the radiator.... and waiting... I was told it was going to ship on the 9th, but later was informed they had to build the core. Was told next ship date was 16th, then was told the core was in the furnace being brazed. Yesterday they told me the furnace was broke for 4 days... this radiator better be worth it..

Sounds like one vote to NOT buy a radiator from Griffin.
After a company tells me fibs 4 or 5 times, they can keep their junk and send me my money back.

I hope it works out for you Mopar2ya

Thanks. I could have bought OEM brass/copper for 450.00, but I figured if I can spend a bit more and get the additional cooling Id do it. It would be mice to be upfront with a customer as to if its in stock etc..

I like brass / copper radiators better than than aluminum ones.
They transfer heat better.

Issue, though, is the solder which would be an insulator. Most of the heavy rigs are switching to aluminium because it cools that much better during idle and the high temp demands of DEF. Copper does transfer heat better but it's the solder that does not.

I can't stress this enough... stay away from radiators that are using plastic... absolute garbage.

Ive done a good bit of reasearch into radiators. Absolutley copper is a superior conductor, but because it is a softer material the tubes have to be thicker which reduces its heat transfer ability. Also the tubes arent as wide reducing the tube/fin contact area. The OEM is a 3 core 1 7/8 thick. But a lot of that 1 7/8 includes tube support structure bewteen the tubes which reduces heat transfer.

My new radiator is a 2 core with 1.25 inch tubes thats 2.50 thick. The aluminum tubes are stronger and are a bit thinner allowing more heat transfer. Ill know more abput how well it works when I drop it in and pull my 48" trailer. I scale about 23-24,000 lbs, so it will work that cooling system.

Just a update in the Griffin. Been 3 years and I hate it, its never cooled the truck nearly as well as the brass/copper. On a 95 degree day a/c off 10psi boost its struggles to stay under 205 degrees. Id love to get my hands on a new OEM unit and run it back to back. Anyone use a specta premium compared to OEM?
