got fuel, need air

I have a 1990 non-intercooled W250 and I have turned the full fuel in 3 turns. Now I have no problem making smoke and making crazy egt's. I installed a K&N filter and 4" downpipe to try and let her breath easier and reduce those egt's, but I can still easily climb above 1200 on any kind of climb. I am looking at putting on a HX35 with a 12cm housing, but I don't know how that will effect egt's. It will give me more air at low end to help burn all that excess fuel, but is 12cm too restricting? Basically I'm looking to make this truck more drivable without turning back the pump.

You'd be better off upgrading the compressor on the original turbo. HTT and Gillett Diesel sell compressor sets, you want the Stage III setup.

dont mean to hijack, but i have been thinking about upgrading my stock turbo. i have the fuel screw in about 2 turns, bully dog injectors, fuel pin, and pump mods, with a 12cm housing. what would you recommend for a turbo upgrade. I was thinking an HTT stage IV what do you think?

I've been looking around, and I think I got my options figured out. I could increase the compresor side to 52mm or 60mm. Then I could decrease the turbine side to 16, 14, or 12cm2. Would the 52mm really make a difference over the stock 50mm? Also, would the 16cm2 spool much faster than the stock 18cm2, and would the 12cm2 create too high of egt's for my non intercooled truck? what combination would be best for a quick but drivable truck? I'm leaning toward a 52/12 if it won't run too hot. Let me know what ya'll think.

Feveree - Auto or stick?

16 cm is not worth the money since you have an 18.5 already. The 12 cm is awesome on a stick truck, but the sloppy converter really negates the effect on an automatic.

Get the Stage III upgrade. IV isn't worth the extra money, anything smaller than a III is a waste.

Its stick, and I'd love the pop from a 12cm2, but I really don't know if I can handle the egt's with that small of a housing. I called the guys from gillett, and I think I'm going with a 56mm compresor and a 14cm2 turbine housing.

i think u will be wasting your $$$$ if u do it that way. i too have a NON i/c. HEAT IS a problem. go even bigger. i was looking at the S300G. there is some good reading out there. do some more research. there can be a 400 degree drop in EGT`s nwith the right turbo.

Do not make my mistake and get a 56mm. Go as big as reasonably priced, hence the stage 3 or 4. That will cool your EGT's. I really dont think you'll have any EGT problems unless you're pulling 20,000 pounds.

the s300g would be awesome, but i sure don't have that kind of money. I'm not shooting for the 350-400 hp that hing can put out. I'm just looking at a some what affordable way to help reduce egt's and still keep 250-275 hp. If I keep my 18.5cm housing and just upgrade to a bigger (56 mm) compresor will the turbo lag even more than it does now?

Mine spooled faster with a bigger comp wheel. And going from a 50mm to a 56mm is a considerable size increase. But I still wish I would have gone for the Stage 4. I don't think you'll notice anymore lag

Do not spend the money for a 14 cm, they are a waste. And like 90firstgen said, get the stage III. There's no sense in making a little upgrade to the compressor.
