fuel problems??

i started my truck this morning and had it in nuetral. i gave it a good rev just for fun and it stuttered a little bit. i changed my fuel filter and let it run for 30 seconds. gave it some throttle and it didnt do it nearly as bad, should i see how things turn out or keep looking. i am currently going to college, i have tools being in a tech program but am far far from home so i dont have a whole lot of time to work on my truck. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks and i'll keep posting updates on whats going

im pretty sure that was the problem. i had to go into town a while ago and no problems, but now my water in fuel light is staying on. what should i check for? am i going to have to remove the censor from the bottom of the filter and check things out?

thanks
David

check for water in the fuel pull up on the valve at the bottom for a second and see if any water comes out. if none, i would then check that the contacts in the plug are dry.

Edit: btw, did you get the dash insert i shipped you? never checked on the tracking number

i went out and checked the bottom drain and no water came out. i held a paper towel under it but it was all diesel, im guessing it could just be the wires. but the seals are all good and no moisture is in them

hmmm, maybe take the sensor out of the filter. could be a small shaving or piece of metal (somehow) in there closing the circuit between the contacts. i can't think of any other reason why the light would come on.

Two things:

First, it sounds like you had some air in the fuel system. Changing the filter and priming the system got the air out temporarily, but the trouble will return until you find the leak and fix it.

Second, it's not uncommon for the WIF sensor probes to wind up shorted out on the spring inside the filter.

ya i was also thinking air in the system. that was my first thought, but i figured start small instead of going all out. im thinking it could be a return line i guaruntee they have never been replaced.
thanks for all the help

You most likely have your WIF sensor threaded too far into the filter which shorts out the sensor on the plate inside the filter. They don't need to be in there super tight.
