A buddy of mine just bought a 1993 D250 Club Cab automatic with 210,000 miles. The truck is in good shape with a couple small dents, but it drives great. It was well maintaned with all records, and it has a Jacobs exhaust brake. The guy was initially asking $6500, but my buddy got it for $5000. I thought it was a good deal. What do you guys think?
Sounds good to me. Might be more than I'd pay for it (I paid $800 for mine, and drove it from Houston TX to Cape Girardeau MO; have put $3000 in it since, though), but a good clean pickup with maintenance records will bring that.
Why does it have an exhaust brake with an auto? Kinda self defeating if you ask me.

I asked myself the same question about the exhaust brake. We tried it out last night with the truck empty and it didn't do much of anything, but I don't know much about exhaust brakes or what kinda results to expect from them.
Without a lockup torque converter, an exhaust brake is pretty much useless since the converter can only load the engine in one direction--kind of like a rachet, whereas a clutch can load the engine both clockwise and counterclockwise. Anyway, sounds like a good find. Value is in the eye of the check-writer
Of course, Bill is rolling his eyes right now, getting ready to say he wouldn't give more than 600 bucks for a 1st gen

Wouldn't be without one if you are towing a big fifth wheel. I hardly ever use my brakes going down hill. Is also great for laying down a good smoke screen if you put the accellerator down while it is engaged.
You can't say that the e-brake is doing nothing. It is smoking the clutches when you engage it because as soon as you let off the go pedal your line pressure drops back down to idle where it was never designed to deal with holding retarding horsepower. Unless you plan to put in some kind of line pressure holding device like for the 2nd gens and a converter I'd take it out.
