just bought 1993 ram 250 mint condition, have a couple questions

Hello, I currently own a 2004.5 4wd quad cab and have decided to sell it because I really don't need it and would really like to buy a mega cab. I just bought a 1993 dodge ram 250 4wd in mint condition. It is in complete original condition with the exception of the new factory paint job. It only has 75,000 miles. The main question I have is what should i expect? I don't know a whole lot about this generation and I will be flying to Idaho and driving the truck back to Delaware. I have heard rumors of the killer dowel pin (should I worry on this motor)? I just want to make sure that I can prevent any problems while on my drive of 2500 miles. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also my dad is supposed to be sending me pictures so as soon as I get them I will be posting pics of the truck. Thanks in advance.

well that's good you're in delaware? Where in delaware? Us PA/NJ guys can willingly help you out at the next 1st gen get together if you'd like

But anyways, Expect a slow turd when you first drive. Honestly getting into a stock 93 (Im assuming automatic?) from your 04 is gonna be like going from a corvette to a chevette.

The KDP is an issue and should be addressed just for safety

Expect a harsh rough truck like ride even though 03-05's ride like crap too, haha.......On the interstate on the way home you should have no problem getting at least 20 mpg

Hope the A/C works....

I am in Dover and yes I am expecting a big drop in power but I will take the mileage over power cause my 04 gets horrible mileage. What does it take to fix the KDP? Can it be fixed in a weekend? I bought the truck from my Uncle who bought the same type of truck as my grandfather so I have driven these 1st gen trucks before and know about the rough ride but I dont mind it. When I say original condition I mean mint original. The a/c does work and any work needed done to the truck was performed by my other uncle who was the lead cummins tech at the local dodge dealership where my uncle bought it. Unfortunately he is unavailable to talk to so I will have to depend on any research online and the awesome knowledge found on this sight. oh and yes it is an auto.

If you're handy, you can secure the KDP in 2 hours or so your first time.

These old trucks can survive a bunch of neglect. The 1991 I drove from Terre Haute, IN to Gloucester, MA leaked like a sieve and had rotten brake lines AND fuel lines. It too had a fresh paint job and looked "mint."

Well, it's getting a real going-over at my local diesel mechanic (at GREAT expense). IT'S BEEN THERE A MONTH NOW.

Take her easy on the trip and you'll have no worries. Check the fluids since these old trucks ARE leakers.

I hear Ya on that one...My crewcab was supposed to have gone through a Gov't inspection, so should have been good to go with no worries...6 months later I'm still fixing things!!

Well I got the truck! I flew out to Idaho last wednesday and got back at 3:30 Monday morning. It ran great! I didn't get time to do the kdp so I took my chances. I towed about 6,000lbs and got a solid 14mpg's. It took some getting used to compared to my 04.5 but it wasn't that bad. The wife even liked the truck! Since I've been back I installed the biggest tranny cooler that the local napa sold and have just cleaned it up. I prob won't do too much to the truck except for put different wheels on it and maybe do the fuel pin. I will post pics as soon as I can. Oh yeah, I was misinformed about the year, it's a 1992 instead of 1993

Good work!

14 mpg isn't bad towing. I drove my 91 4x4 1000 miles a month or two ago and at 80 mph she got 18 empty.

If you're on a budget, do the 3200rpm governor spring mod ($19) before jumping on the fuel pin (IMO). Save that money for a pyrometer.

Agree ^^^ pyro first, then spring, then make shure your getting full travel with the throtle leaver on the I/P, then back out the high idle screw, i think with that you will be supprised at the differance. if you want more just ask it's got alot more in it for free.
