Wow I had no idea I could do all that for next to nothing. Like I said before I had the 04.5 and it was easy to plug in a computer but this truck is a completely different beast. I will def be pickin ur guys brains to see what I can do. I don't want to go too crazy with it because it is in such great shape and want to keep it somewhat original however I do have a 35 ft fifth wheel that I will need to tow until I get my next truck which will prob be a 2001 or 2002 cummins but that is a few years down the road so I want to concentrate on this truck

congrats man, your gonna love that truck. you will find a lot of valuable information here. it took me and friend somewhere between 4-6 hrs to do the kdp. i dont think it can be done in two hours. took my time cleaned everything up, re torqued everything. i bought the timing cover gasket and crank seal directly from cummins just for a piece of mind. good luck man!

Good recipe:
1. Boost Guage/Pyro ~$150
2. 3200 RPM Spring $16
3. smaller exhaust housing on turbo ~$75
4. Turn up fuel screw ~$free
5. Get a real tranny ~$1500

you can get close to doubling the HP for less than $1,000, and still be able to use it. however once you get there it's costly to go the next 100 hp. these motors were desined to run 2,600 rpm all day long 24/7 on industrial equipment so there kinda detuned, but you can take an afternoon and some wrenches and i can promice you will have a smile on your face for awhile.

All the advice above is good, I would only add that when You do the KDP You order all Your parts form Your local cummins dealer and give them the engine serial # then ask for their front crank seal with a wear sleeve, this one is a good safe way to avoid doing the job twice. When I did My first KDP I ordered a regular crank seal and found to My surprise it was worn and the seal would not accomplish its purpose so I spent the money again and got one with the sleeve. After that I always order them with the wear sleeve just to be safe, You don't want to plan on doing it in a couple hs and end up waiting a couple days for the right parts. Also instead of tabbing it, I drilled the case and taped the hole then drove a SS bolt right in front of it to make sure it never falls.

Your exhaust housing is what spools up your turbo. So it's the part of the turbo your exhaust runs through. The stock one is 21cm2 I believe and guys upgrade to a 12, 14 or 16cm2 units for faster spooling and a little more boost.
