Never been a big fan of synthetics for diffs. I also traded my cousin's boss a case of beer for 3 cases of Kendall 85-140w. He owns a garage and he doesn't work on anything that specs it anymore. He had about 10 cases of it and was occasionally dumping it into his waste oil furnace to get rid of it!

Well I only drive about 10 miles to work....and the diff still chattered when I backed into my parking spot. I'm hoping that given a few more days that the fluid will work it's way into the clutches....

I did the STP oil additive mixed 50/50 in the PS fluid for my old 68 Chrysler wagon. It's all original and getting tired, and once hot and trying to turn those front wheels with a 440 hanging on top of them in a parking lot, would require some additional RPM's to get the wheels to move..... but it made a noticeable difference...don't have to rev it up now in parking lots.

Thanks for the update. Hope it gets better, but IMHO it seems like chatter is just what you get with this style LSD. Funny though mine does not do it in reverse and it only does it up to 20 MPH. I guess I'll just keep on ignoring it

Well did a bunch of running around today.....in town local stuff mostly, so lots of cornering and tight turns...well the chatter is getting less and less. I did a bunch of hard turns in reverse just outside my house when I got back, and it seems most of the chatter is now gone. Another day or so and I bet it will be smoothed right out.

I think perhaps one of the other reasons these PowerLoc's chatter more after a rebuild is due to there not being any fiber lined clutch plates for them anymore...just metal plates?

Hey TCow, in regards to my crew cab project. I've been thumbing through your build for a while now (great work by the way) and was curious, which axles do you prefer. My truck has Dana 60 front and rear, disc breaks all around, and im curious if upgrading axles would be preferred. Plan on having the truck around 350 hp daily driver/recreational truck. No towing or heavy hot rodding but want reliable axles that will hold up well. It has 4:10 gearing each end so i plan on having the axles regeared/rebuilt and just curious if upgrading to Dana 70 or 80 would be better and if i should do just the rear or both axles. Thank you in advance

Well Thank you for your kind words on my build thread...just try and show how I do things, with the hope that it might help out someone working on their junk.

As for axles.....The front D60 will be fine, no need to mess with that one. And the rear axle...if you have a D70 then I would go with it, but if not then i would still run the 60 in the rear. With no heavy towing or 3rd gear 3500rpm clutch drops.......I think it would hold up fine.

I was running the gasser D60, with small gasser U-joint yoke as well, in my crewcab for over 3 years. And I pulled several heavy loads over the mountains of BC, and up and down the I-5....never gave me any trouble.

Thank you very much for the info. What are the best year models to look for a 70?

Best would be a D70 from a 1st Gen, so 89-93. But I would stay away from the D71 and D61F with 3.07 gears from the early 89/90 1st Gen with a 727.

what did you have to do to your 4x4 linkage ? you have to shorten it to make it work for the np205?

Well there are two types of transfer case shifters...Non-gated, and gated....and with gated shifters the auto and manual tranny trucks run slightly different units as well. My 93 cummins/auto donor had an auto gated shifter. If you scroll back through my build thread you can find what I had to do to make the auto gated shifter work with the NV4500, and NP205.

But to mount it I used the advance adapters transfer case shifter bracket and linkage kit.

So last Friday I headed on a 500+ mile trip (one way) to Prince George BC for my Brother in-laws wedding. Tossed some old tire tubes filled with sand in the back for traction, and Loaded up Ol' Patches with the family and gear and headed on up.

Truck did great, didn't burn a drop of oil, and had no issues....other then a bit of water that had snuck into the e-brake cables.

Once the temperature dropped they froze up! So some hot water poured on the cables freed them up, and just had to remember not to use them...which was very hard since it's a habit to put them on every time I stop.

Got back last night....and had traveled about 1100miles. Truck averaged about 21mpg!

Rolled over my oil change interval when I was traveling, so today was service time, and clean up the 'Ol beast from it's winter travels....especially since it was going to be about 16*c (68*F) and clear and sunny!

So I changed my oil, with a WIX oil filter, and tossed in a fresh G2 5/16 fram fuel filter. While removing the air box to turbo tube to give me some room to do the oil filter, I noticed something wasn't right.

Luckily I had a spare one in my parts horde....

I also rotated my 5 tires, and flushed my brake fluid. Was a good productive day!

Thanks...I look forward to your crewcab build! You'll fall in love with it once you get it done.

Actually my wife and daughters really enjoyed the trip in the crewcab. They were moaning before we left that it was going to be a horrible ride...bumpy and rough...but after we got back they said that they would prefer to do this trip again in Patches...not my 68 Chrysler T/C wagon we usually use every summer to go visit my brother in-law and his family up in PG.
