boost question

My 1993 B-5.9-160, Cummins manual I have calls for 10psi at idle and 30psi at rated rpm. Does 10psi more at rated rpm (40psi) really make that much difference? How or does that change your rpm shift range in a stick. I have a Getrag 5 speed with 3-56 gears in the dana 70 rear, the motor winds out at 15mph in 2nd, 32mph in 3rd, 52mph in 4th and 75mph in 5th seems to be screaming. I have no tack, the truck was not equiped from the factory. I assume cummins only installed a tack drive somewhere when orded from chry.
Dave.

Agreed. You shouldnt see any boost at idle. If your truck is stock then you should hit 18-22psi of boost at WOT.

Dah. Thats correct, I better reread my stuff. What about the other discriptions with factory tack hookup and shift ranges? Also my turbo doesn't have a waste gate, is this the baby turbo offered at time of orded in `93`

The "Baby" H1C is standard on the 89-91 NON-IC. There were no turbo "options."

The only difference in turbos from 91-93 is the exhaust housings and I think their differences were determined by the transmission option.

you should have a normal H1C with an 18.5cm^2 exhaust housing.

Don't worry about how it sounds, it has a governor and you can't over-rev it in stock form. Push the pedal hard enough to do the speed you want and nevermind the racket.

You might want to fill out your sig so we can see what you've got. From what I read it looks as if you are running a Getrag tranny. Over filling it by a quart should help to quiet it down - at least you will know if it's the engine or trans that is making the noise - I would bet on the tranny. From the mph in each gear and top speed of 75 mph it sounds bas if you are running 411s in the rear diff. There is a lot of good info in the stickies and all 1st gen posters are more than willing to help.
