block heater not working
hi
i went to cummins yesterday and got a new block heater plug b/c the stock one was "wasted" so to speak. well i put the new one on and plugged it in last night.....went to start it in this morning and she was ICE cold!
any ideas whats going on? i really could use this thing in the mornings

It IS a freeze plug, basically. Unscrew the nut that holds the cord to the heater, pull the cord out, and you will see how to take it out.

dave, id be able to pick up a new heater/freeze plug thing from cummins? and how would i install it? i remember my friend did a freeze plug on his chevy 350 i think he used some sort of permatex and hit it with a hammer into place?

I got mine just as the one from cummins but I paid much less than the dealer was asking, I don't remember where got it but I asked this question about a year ago and found a place where to get it for cheap. The brand is fleetguard and comes with cord and all.
just had my block heater rig checked and I'm glad I did; the cord AND the plug/coil were absolutely wasted, beyond redemption
fortunately the water pump and thermostat were being changed out so the radiator was already emptied.
doesn't really get that cold right here on the shore of a large body of saltwater (Long Island Sound) but I like to plug both my diesels in to tuck them in at night (use a timer that cycles on from 0500 to 0800)
