Block heater not working

I was wondering if there is a fuse or a wire I could find on my block heater? It doent seem to be working, I plug the truck in all day yesterday, and when I left for work, the truck started and ran like it was never plugged in. Any help or info??????

When you plug it in can you hear the block heater running? Are you sure that the extension cord was plugged in? Just trying to cover the basics. I have read about some people having problems with the block heater cord. It usually ends up being the plug. You could try replacing the cord end.

You could also check out this link or do a search https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=84898

If you have an ohm-meter do a continuity check between the two "power" prongs on the end of the cord (not the round ground prong). If there is continuity between the two prongs then your plug and heater are good. If there is no continuity then either your plug, wire, or heater is bad.

Normally the cord goes bad before the heater does. I just had to replace mine today. P/N# 251919 = $16.00 at the Cummins dealer. Dodge will charge you $33.00.

from time to time, the cords are known to come loose/off at the heater element end too. Check the continuity with an ohm meter as was previously mentioned. If no continuity at "plug in" end, check on the two outside pins of the element. Follow the cord to find the element. If it looks loose, it is, try wiggling the element end. Most times it is the male end that has brken wires where it leads into the molded plug. Just replace the end if this is the case. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys. It was the cord, checked the plug, and the cord for continuity, and both were zero, checked the prongs on the heater and they were fine. Unfortunatley, no one around here had one in stock, neither Cummins or any of the Dodge dealers. I had to order one from the Gary In. Cummins supply, hopfully it will be here tomorrow.
Thanks again for the help!
