Yup, also known as the "killer dowel pin" I've yet to modify mine yet though. Should be done though. Major safety precaution!

All too common on 12v's. Not to discredit TST, but you CAN make your own KDP tab. I did, with a piece of 16ga SS a drill bit and some..........creative hammering. Some folks have made em outta clothes hanger wire. Just about anything will work. And be sure to 'do' the case bolts while you're in there. They seem to be somewhat of a recurring issue with 1st gens as well.

Go click the Search button and type in KDP, you can read till you puke!!

BTW, here's a pic. Just to get you a little familiar with the KDP.

If your KDP is not killed, do it NOW! It is extreme damage if it comes out. It is not worth waiting and taking the chance.

I don't know why staking around the hole isn't just as good as putting a tab over the it. I have heard that it's a good idea to retorque the bolts holding the housing to the block or even removing and Locktiteing them. The new seal is a must also.

I haven't done mine either but I heard it isn't an issue on 89's.

Isn't it more of a secon gen. problem than a first? I thought I had read that here.

Yes and even early 24=valves but it never hurts to be on the safe side. I found a cover to block bolt that was out almost a full turn same thing.

I'm going to loctite, peen, and tab my dowel pin. If it'll help, JB Weld, gorilla glue, tig weld, super glue (gel and regular), duct tape and a big hairy booger!
