Adjusting Valves

I Am Trying To Adjust The Valve. I Am Pushing On The Timing Pin Below The Rotary Fuel Pump While I Am Rotating The Engine. The Pin Is Not Pushing In. I Belive It May Be Broke. Any Other Way To Find Top Dead Center Without A Bunch Of Work. Thanks For The Help

It's probably stuck, they can be a real pain. If they are broke they will move in and out about 3/8" no matter what the crank position is. An intact pin will have about 1/16" of travel except at #1 TDC when it will move full stroke.

Just pull all the rocker covers and roll the motor over until you have each cylinder on compression (both valves closed) and adjust them then. It involves a little more turning of the engine, but it keeps you from even having to find TDC.

I couldn't get mine to go in either. So I just used a pry bar to put a little more leverage on while I was rotating it over and It popped right in. So it is a option for you.

Take your valve covers off.

Watch the #6 cylinder rocker arms. When turning backwards from the alternator nut pay attention to the intake arm. When it comes up and the exhaust JUST starts to go down (I call this crossover)adjust cylinders 1,2,3,4,5

Now. Rotate with alternator nut watching the arms on the #1 cylinder. When they crossover adjust 2,3,4,5,6

I have never used the timing pin for adjusting valves. Pulling the covers and doing it this way is IMHO faster and easier.

Take care
Mark
