That's what the local Dodge dealer wants (inluding a gasket set). Is that crazy or what?

I'll do it for $250! $295 is ridiculous, it takes less than an hour. It should cost no more than $100 including gaskets.

Denis,
Time to find a reputable independent shop. Sounds like the Dodge dealer is charging you a nuisance tax!!

A Nuisance Tax! What a great idea!

Yeah, I'm going to look around for a shop. I'd like to learn to do it myself eventually, but it needs to be done by a shop first because at 203,000 miles they've never been adjusted!

Oh for cryin' out loud.

The Ford dealer tells me that it's only 1.5 hours labor by their Cummins book and that with gaskets (if needed), it's about $150.

However, Ford won't let the truck in the building because it says "Dodge" on it.

I feel like i'm dealing with a bunch of children fighting in a sandbox.

I have NEVER heard of such a thing. Are you kidding, or am I living under a rock?

Find a cummins shop and take it to them, even if it's out of your way. I wouldn't want the Dodge dealer getting on the job training on my truck, and charging me for their screw ups. But at those prices, I'd ask if that included the vaseline and a Trojan

Hi guys,
No asilitch, I'm not kidding! I even told one of the places I was disgusted and that all the shops I spoke too including them, acted like spoiled, stubborn children.

The Ford dealer's response really surprised me. The guy too whom I spoke felt bad about it, I could tell on the phone.

I called the other Ford dealer listed as a Cummins service provider told me, "we don't service those engines". When I told them Cummins listed them as a provider, they asked how old the truck is and if it had been there before. When I told them it had 203,000 miles and had never been in there, they declined to touch it.

I called Cummins in Greensboro (about an hour away) and they were pretty outraged about it, since at least one of the shops I called were distributors for the engines that Cummins Greensboro sells. Cummins called one of the places, called me back and told me that they will speak to people higher up because they feel it's ridiculous.

They can do it next Friday for $164, including the gaskets.

If your talking about that dealer doing it for that price, I don't know if I'd allow them to do it. It sounds like they don't see that engine often 'nuff to be trustworthy. It might be worth a trip to Greensboro and get it done one day...see what floor models they have on display.
