??? on 88' Cummins Conversion

Hi guys. I am new here. I have an 06 LBZ Duramax. I love my D-Max...but i am gitting married to my beautiful fiance this coming saturday, and we are looking to buy our first house and farm together. So i have opted to sale my D-Max. I have always had a love for the old square body Dodges. I have found an 88 W250 4x4 that use to be an old Parks and Recreation Truck for the Forestry Dept. It has a 360 w/ a TF727 tranny, and Dana 60's front and rear. It has a lil' over 100k on the Odometer. The body is in great shape with the exception of a lil rust in the floorboard and the white paint peeling off the bed. I can buy it for $1800.00

I need some helpful info if possible. Do these trucks have the same amount of room in the doghouse as the 89-93's equipped with the Cummins? I want to convert it to a first gen. How much work would be involved in converting it to an I/C first gen with a NV4500 Tranny? How much RWHP can a first gen put out? It will be a daily driver for some time...but i dont have far to get to work and i would like to see 400-450 RWHP on #2 only.

Thanks for the help. Any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks again,
Adam

A Cummins will drop in like it grew there, they did not modify the cab at all.

Find a 2nd gen 12 valve donor and the power level you are looking for will be easier. It takes a lot to get 450 RWHP out of a VE pump, not a lot of guys have done it yet.

Thanks,
Adam

How much HP are most guys getting out of the first gen's with the VE? This isnt going to be a pulling truck or nothing extreme (I wish that was the plan though)...just a good looking daily driver (I hope) that i hope to get some decent power out of. Is 350 RWHP out of the question from a first gen? I don't know much about the first gens so please be patient with me cause im likely to ask alot of questions lol...

Thanks

Adam

its possible but will take decent amount of work to get to that level. Wannadiesel has 400+ with his 1st gen.

Hey, if you end up with a first gen donor, you may want to check out these guys. Very helpfull on the phone. Then you just need to find a clutch pedal assy in a wrecking yard. http://www.high-impact.net/transmiss...88-03_auto.htm It may seem like a lot of $ but it is all new stuff.

By the way, congrats on the wedding. 22 years and going for me. As of this year, more than half my life. The good half. Work hard at loving your wife. Don't let anyone try to convince you that it is not hard work, and don't let anyone try to convince you that it is not worth it. Good luck, man.

By the way. Check out the blog in my signature. I am in the process of a simultanious transplant of ctd/nv4500 into a 77 crewcab and a ctd/auto into a 77 ramcharger. I am trying to dicument my discoveries, successes, and failures.

Don't hate me guys, but I'd seriously look for a p-pump motor to stick in there. That's what I went with on my RCC, and it wasn't too bad to adapt everything.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread,but...To the guys that have been successful, were you able to use the gasser rad support or did the diesel support have to be used as well?

Gasser support can be used with some modification. Our '85 Crew Cab has a stock support in it. Just cut the tabs off that set the radiator back and made mounting brackets to go in place of the tabs that run down the opening in the rad support. Probably would have been easier to find a diesel support.
