Question MISSING SPRING in V E ??

In all of the VE-pump build-ups that I have been looking at, including a How-To-DVD, there is a SPRING located in the center of piece #27 in the exploded diagram :

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...15&postcount=9

Piece #27 is the cross-looking thing that meshes with #29-camplate and #A-drive-shaft.

In every build-up I have seen, there is a spring in the center-hole of #27; BUT, it does not show it in the above parts diagram, and I did not find this SPRING in the pump from my son's truck.

Should there be a spring in there, or is it only in the V-W VEs ??

If it should be there, I need a part-number, please.

Thanks.

Same here, just went through it, no spring in pump, no spring in parts diagram. So no spring installed.

Was it not stuck inside where the letter A points- inside the drive shaft? Maybe the 114 pump doesn't have it. One of the ag pumps I've gone through has it, so who knows what application it's for.

I'm not sure what purpose a spring in that area would serve?

No spring on the 6bt pumps I have taken apart. I can only imagine that a spring there would keep the input shaft pressed toward the front of the case. On our pumps the shaft is captive between the collar of the roller ring and the case -- but there is some end play.

If you have gotten that far without breaking anything, you are way ahead of the game .

V/W uses the spring, dodge does not. No idea why but I guess it is useless.

Merely speculating, but the V-W engines turn in the 5-6,000-RPM range, whereas we are below 3200-RPM; so, maybe the spring becomes more necessary at the higher RPMs, maybe.

Thanks for easing my mind due to the lack of a spring.
