1st gen injectors

Question. A buddy of mine has a 92 CTD, and wants to start upgrading. He wanted to know what my setup was, and I shared, and he's decided he wants the same thing. But my question is this, can you put the 370, 215 injectors in a 1st gen head? And would it matter if it was P-Pumped? Just wondering what the differences were.

If you do a pump conversion you can use the 2nd gen injectors. The pop off pressure on a 1st gen injector is much lower than a 2nd gen, so you can't run 370's on a 1st gen. An injector shop could make a special set using 370 tips, but it's simpler and cheaper just to get POD's.

The 370s have a larger thread size where the injector lines hook up, so they won't fit.
You could have the 370 tips, installed into 1st gen upper bodies, and pop tested to VE pump specs, but at that point PODs are a much better bargain. Plus they flow more.

He's actually wanting a p-pump conversion, on the look out for a 215 pump, so my basic question was just whether the bores for the injectors in the head were different. Which judging from the responses they aren't? thanks for the help guys!

Make sure he knows he needs the timing case and the lines, as well as the lift pump. It's a pretty involved swap.

Second gen 12v injectors will fit in the first gen head. If the P-Pump is used, there is no problem because the larger nuts on the fuel lines will fit the larger injector body. If used with a VE, the nozzles must be swapped to the first gen body, because the nuts on the injection lines are smaller.
