Why do I have a 2-piece driveshaft?
(This is my regular cab dually I am talking about).
Did Dodge switch over to a 2-piece driveshaft for even the regular cab trucks in '96?
I was reading one of Infidels posts and he said the following about his '95 trucks:
Box5 also has a 1 piece, he has a '94 reg cab 4x4 dually also.
Was this because the 1 piece shafts can sort of "jumprope" at high speeds?
Just curious, somehow we got on this in another thread so I thought I'd let that one go back on topic.

Both my standard cab trucks came stock with one piece driveshafts.

Exactly the jump rope thing!!! I had a car hauler (extended frame)with two that would "ring out" the long shafts every once and a while and the guy at the drive line shop said anything over 60 inches is questionable. I did not want to put three shafts in it though. But that is what he recommended to cure it!

Both my 3500 & 2500 standard cab long beds are one piece.
Ford quit using two piece shafts a couple of years ago, too many problems related to the high diesel torque.

Most of you guys are talking 2500srw, and Infidel's 3500 appears to be a srw - the first post is a 3500 drw - I've not seen a drw 'dooley' with a 1pc driveshaft, not even in the 2wd versions - it's the offset of the big Dana80 and the additional traction of the 4 rear rubbers - too much windup under heavy load with the increased drw GVWR - towing, hauling, all that stuff

I've got the 2 piece in my reg. cab dually ('95)...just replced the center bearing last week as a matter of fact.
I also have an aluminum 1 pc. driveshaft removed from a '95 reg cab/longbed gasser...2WD IIRC.
I hate the 2 piecers'...mainly because my center bearing was a dealer only $100+ part

I dont understand why ford would question the strength of a 2 piece shaft many class 8 trucks and road tractors have 3 some even 3 piece shafts. Maybe ford just needs some design help.

Not sure about the years, but I know this:
2500 Auto - D70
2500 5spd. - D80
3500 Auto/Manual - D80
Not sure about first/thrid gen.
Never heard of a "HD" version though .
