What brand toy hauler to buy?

I know there are some folks on here with experience with RVs. Just want to get the best for the money. Tell me what brands to stay away from. Im lookin for somethin in the 32 to 36 foot range with a 12 or 14' garage, needs to be able to haul two 700 Grizzlies in it. Dont really want to go any bigger than 36' because I only have an SRW 3500.

Cool R.v. Help

Hi . Glade to see you are thinking about the horse and not puting the cart in front . One of the trailers that I would stay away from is any one that is out of bussness . There are several that went out of bussness in calif . You can not get parts for them , molded fiberglass body parts .

The is several problems with toyhaulers . I have a sand rail and quad in a enclosed trailer . (no living quoters ) I pull this trailer with my motor home .
Take your time and think about what you may be using the trailer for !
One of the problems is weight issuses , axles and tires . When looking at trailers look for the weight carring tag . When you add it all up it does not work from the factory . Weight of trailer , water , gas , propane , food , clothes , riding gear , tools , parts , and you know the " kitchen sink " .
The other thing size of tanks and how long you will be staying in it .
It is nice to have 120 gallions water , but when the grey and black only add up to 80 gallions ? There are to many questions and answers !

Good Luck ! If you find a trailer and want a openion just ask me . Sorry for the spelling .

I believe you are wise in picking a garage model. My 5th wheel Ragen is a good rig, but it utilizes the living area for hauling your toys. There is no left over residue, like gas smells or otherwise once it is unloaded, but when you stop for a break (on the road) it kinda sucks that you cannot use the living space, because everything you and your wife and kids could load into it, is in your way.

If I could do it over, I would get a garage model, but I am not going to spend the $s now for a minor, but irritating inconvenience.

National RV who made Ragen is now out of business, but I have not encountered any problems finding parts. The warrenty has long since expired, so it's all on me anyways.

Ive looked at the Cyclones and what is kinda neat about these is you dont have to have a slider in the short bed, that would save me some money. Any body know of any cons to the Cyclones? Ive even looked at hitch adapters so I could use my gooseneck ball, but it seems most people dont like that idea simply because they say the frames on the RV's arent strong enough to use them. Star Performance has one that I would consider if I knew it wasnt gonna tear anything up.

I have a Cherrokee Wolf Pack and it is OK but nothing special. I had some isues with it under warentie but nothing to major. It is not a garage model but that realy hasent been to big of a problem. There is no gas fumes or anything to wory abought like most say. As already mentioned above abought the only real isue is stopping for abreak while loaded. Yes it can be done but not as easaly. We can get 3 utilitys or 4 sport machines in it. Thats why we chose the open floor plan. With a garage you have to go to a much bigger unit to get 2 or 3 machines in. Ours has a 32 gallon on board fuel station to fill the ATVs off of and a 100 gallon fresh watter tank. That is realy nice wheile boondocking in Colorado for a week at a time. Something wise to consider is how often are you going to use it as a toy hauler vs just regular old camping with out the toys. We are actualy trying to sell ours rite now so that we can buy a regular fifth wheel and have a nicer camper for the non ATV camping trips. We havent put an ATV in ours now for a year and a half. There is no legal riding in Iowa anymore that is worth the efert of driving to so I figure we may as well have a nicer camper for the every other weekend camping trips we do with our freinds. Then if we ever want to go somewhere like Colorado with the ATVs and camper we could just pull the ATVs behind the camper. We realy thought we would use it more but there just isent anywere around to go with it and the ATVs anymore so now its for sale. No one has any money now though so I may have to use it anouther year then try selling it again latter. I suggest looking into how often you will use it as a toy hauler vs just regular camping and decide if its wirth it or if pulling doubles once or twice a year is eisier. You can get a hole lot more camper for your money if you get a regular fifth wheel camper.
When we were looking at toy haulers the brands that realy cought my eye where Sportsman/New Vision, Cyclone, and Raptor. There are no Weekend Warrior dealers anywhere around here but I have seen a few and they seemed WAY overpriced and not built any better than the rest. Sportsman/New Visoin has a new one out now that is top of the line and REALY nice but is also very expensive but they all are I guess.

This is ours. http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p.../Toy%20Hauler/

If you are looking at a 10 or 12' seperate garage, you will likely have to turn big 4x4's sideways to get two in, especially if they have big tires/wheels.

I just upgraded from a 30' Patio Hauler with about a 10' seperate garage, and turning the 2nd one sideways was a pain as it was half on the ramp and not much room.

The 40' one I've got now has about 14' of garage, so I should only have to spin the 1st one sideways, unless I want to get 3 in.

If this is your first RV or toyhauler, I'd highly suggest going used- unless money is no object. Hit a big RV show with a digital camera and photo each one that looks interesting (start with a shot of what model it is- they will run together). Then cruise classifieds. You will likely find barely used units a couple years old, at maybe 2/3 of the new price.

Lastly, on RV's there are a couple things a person could miss until you bought it and went to use it...

One is the head room in the shower. Many of them have shower stalls that sit 4" above floor level, and I guess if you are over 6' they expect you to wash with your head stuck up in the sunroof bubble thing.

The other thing- with the dividing wall with a door, many toyhaulers are set up so that people sitting at the sofa or dinette would have to turn sideways to see the TV/Entertainment center.

I have an 2003 824 campmaster with a tag hitch. 12 foot camping area: we find it tight and the fold down bed and dinette are not comfortable at our age (size). The all in one crapper, shower and shave beats using the great outdoors, but is not all that comfortable. For weekend use, it is passable. The 11'3" garage was used for dirt bikes, but the 1500 lbs capacity can be limiting. The issues I have are as follows: too low to the ground; if not careful it would be easy to rip all of the waste drain plumbing out. Second would be the small living area: not having a real bed is a hassle. Third would be the 7000 lbs GVW restriction; I would want at least 4500 lbs axles, rims and tires. I like how well it pulls (like a 28' car hauler) it looks good and it's fairly well built.

My wish list for the next one would be: 36 foot 5vr or GN, 20 foot living area with over hitch bed. larger bath room/shower, larger fridge, more storage. The garage at 16 foot, with taller ramp door, same steel floor, tie downs, cabinents, venting, windows, etc.
My trailer supplier would suppy the utility trailer as spec'd, send it to PA to have the interior built. I have seen a few custom ones he has done for other guys and it is the way to go (IMO) (If the USD to CDN exchange rate (25%)ever goes back to some where near par, it will happen)

I have a 05 KZ Sportsmen 38' that has a 10' garage for my bagger and other stuff. It has 2 slides and like every thing toy I would like to go bigger, you know slide envy, length envy, etc. 2 years ago we spent a month in Mission TX and this year we were 6 weeks in Florida. Next year it's back to TX for as long as I can get the boss to stay. You will see from my sig that I pull with a swqc and have been known to exceed the speed limit. The 5vr usually weighs in around 13+000 as we DO carry even the kitchen sink but that is why we bought a hauler. PM me if I can help, I love mine and think its the best thing since nitromethane.
Fred-the boss and the dog.

K-Z does indeed build some nice stuff. I almost ordered a new one, but then I ran into a 30' Patio Hauler that was in decent shape for about what I was planning on using as a down payment.

Be sure to consider other options besides a toyhauler.

GF's parents snow bird in AZ, and for them a large tow trailer and a Monster Hauler to carry two quads over the truck bed works well. They can go on day trips and take the quads without having to unhook the trailer... Something I can't do with a toyhauler. Really handy when there isn't a legal way to ride an ATV from where you can camp, to the trailhead.

Another guy there has a big motor home and an enclosed trailer big enough for a car and atv's. He doesn't want to have to drive a pickup around all winter, and can afford the motorhome that can tow that much (ISX Cummins powered I think).

Closer to home, a riding buddy went with a high end truck camper, since he likes to camp in really remote places and wanted to be able to camp anywhere he could get a pickup. He got a 10.6 Bigfoot, big enough to have a dry bath, and short enough for pulling an ATV trailer...

There's really no perfect setup for every situation.

Have a look here. Built on a carhauler frame and aluminum cabinets.
