I'm looking at buying a new fifth wheel toy hauler. I've been looking at the Fleetwood Gearbox 33 footer. I have been pulling travel trilers for about 15 years now and its time to up grade. Some concerns I have are pin weight and overall gross weight. The gearbox 33 footer has an aprox. pin weight of 2100 and a goss weight of 14,000 pounds, dry weight of 8500 and carry capacity of 5700. Is this to much? See truck sig. The travel trailers i have been pulling were grossing around 8000-8500. This fifth wheel stuff will be new to me so any help or suggestions would be greatly appriciated...........

That pin wght. is probably factory spec. dry. When loaded, fresh water, batteries, gear in cargo hold you'll more than likely have a pin wght. around 2500. Add that to the weight of the truck full of fuel. passengers, hitch. etc around 7400 = 9900 you will be over gross vehicle rating & more than likely over gross combanation rating.
My pin on my 32' 5vr is 2350 & trailer axles 9800 = 12150 + my old truck 7400 =19550. I was 950 over the gvwr & 3,550 lbs over the gcwr. Thats why I traded up to a dually with a six speed.

I think if you want to stay within the limits of your GVWR and GCWR it will be tough to find a big 5th wheel toy hauler. The wife and I looked for awhile and found a couple, KZ makes a nice one, it is the 29 footer.

we like the weekend warrior trailers. we have had 3 in the last 10 yrs. sold the right too. the resale is good. we traded up every time. 6 of our friends were looking at other brands and ended up with a warrior. gear box trailers are ok but waaayyyy too heavy for what you pay. there are better or equal trailers for alot less.
