I just talked to my Dad last night and he and Mom are currently traveling to the west coast towing their 28' Cougar (probably close to 10k since Mom has packed every square inch of it!) He said he's real happy with the Cummins and is getting 14+ mpg running 65mph. I told him to keep track so I can report on their impressions of their first diesel. Previous truck was a 00 V-10.
This one is an 05, 2WD, 3.73/auto

from wisconsin to athens tennesse pulling 6500 # stacked 9 ft hi on trailer about 3 ft above cab line i averages 17- 17.5 MPG runnig 62 and pulling wisconsin to West virginia 11,000 # in overdrive with 3.55's im getting 16 MPG
empty w/ trailer 2500 # i run about 20 MPG give or take a 1/2 but im easy on it and rarely take it over 2300 R's anyone know how i can get better fuel mileage

Dad and Mom are currently in Phoenix and he said the new truck is running GREAT! He said the mileage is running about 13-14 pulling the mountains on the way out there. He is still commenting on how well the new 48RE is doing with shift management in the Tow/Haul mode. They are Happy campers so far!

I now have about 34k miles on my CTD. Pulling my Arctic Fox 27' 5er I am still doing a fantastic 6 MPG.

Pulling a 30' triple axle thru the Alberta and B.C. Rockies (total weight 15,000 lbs) I averaged 14 mpg. Unloaded I get 16-17 mpg.

300 SDL, Did you have the flash done to your truck? You should get better than 6 MPG.

I get 13 - 14 @ 60 miles an hr. About 10,000 lb. 5er.

I have owned two Dodge cummins diesels and pulling 8,000-12,000 lbs at 65 MPH have never seen more than 10-12 MPG oh wait there was that time I came down a hill and reset the trip computer and it showed 99 MPG. I'am not saying anyone is fudging numbers or calculating things wrong but if someone is going to tell me they are getting alot better mileage I'll have to be there before they will ever convince me. I have pulled things big and small with gassers and diesels, drove flatbed machine trucks, delivered and nondelivery and have never ever seen fuel mileage like is posted here or on alot of truck sites. I sure wish someone would come along with one of those big MPG trucks and convince me once and for all it can be done. Yah if someone was to drive 40-45 MPH maybe but at 60-75 MPH pulling 8,000+ lbs like most claim, come on, I've been alive and around too long to beleave most of those numbers.

i agree with you...i get 22mpg unloaded, but when i put 6k behind me in a box trailer that number drops significantly

i totally agree bluebull, i tow a 30' weekend warrior. it's tall, i drive the speed limit. took a trip from southern az., to idaho last year and averaged 8.5. i also,
would like to see a truck pull this thing at speed and get 16/17 or whatever the mpg of the week happens to be.

My last trip out, flat towing my 5000 lb jeep, I got about 13-14 mpg at 72-74 mph..

Finally hit the magic number! Went from middle Michigan thru the bottom of Chicago to home. Got 10.05 miles per gallon. Running 68 to 70 except thru Chicago -5mph ( honest, I thought I was going backwards). Again pulling 21,000 gross.
