Another towing with no gauges thread

Hello all,

I am traveling to Ohio in a few days to attend a vintage motorcycle event. A gentleman I know has offered to let me borrow his toyhauler so that I may camp out on the grounds and not have to get a hotel. The only issue I am wandering about is towing the beast up there. It is a 35' goosneck trailer that weights about 10K pounds.

My truck is a stock 06 2500, except for a set of pacbrake bags and BW hitch. Should I worry about excessive EGT's with a stock motor?

Thanks,

WAP

No 10k will be no problem for you unless its very high grades. these trucks are made to tow that and abit more

Thanks for the replys. I figured it would not be a problem. But all I ever hear is that you have to watch EGT's.

Gauges are important to have, even on a stock truck. I would consider it down the road for extra insurance

If you have a stick shift, don't lug it up hills, even if the truck will pull it. Keep the revs up over 2000 on the hills. Lugging up hills is the only way you should get high egts with a stock truck.

This is what I've been doing and my truck seems to love it. Once I start up a hill and if it appears that the truck will not hold the speed with more than a little extra gas I drop the truck into 5th and take the RPMs up to 2500. There are lots of grades that I've been able to run at 70MPH in 6th. It's just the steeper ones that are probably 5-6% that slows the truck enough to warrant a downshift.

Just don't try to find the floorboard with the throttle, especially up long grades.
