How about a spot in the forums for ONLY tips and how-tos for improving fuel economy on your cummins rig!!!
I would like to see a 12 valve separate from the 24 valve... or 1st,2nd,3rd gen. etc etc.
There are many ways to do a little here and a little there for improving mileage on these trucks.
And the higher fuel gos, the more folks will be interested in this !!!

Keep your tires aired up.
Keep your Speed <65 mph.
Keep your RPM <2000.
Keep your Boost as low as possible.

My best was a hand calculated 21.5 MPG on a 24V, Auto, 4.10, rear wheel drive dually.
ALL highway miles (road trip), cruise set at 2000 rpm.
Just let the big dog eat.

 

I kept my tires tight, timing at 19.5,#5 fuel plate slid forward all the way,
combined city and highway driving pretty much any way I want to drive...
returned mpg of 22.48
12V 5spd 3.54 gears 2wd
looking for specifics.....

 

Shave 5 lbs off the right foot...the greatest mileage gain to be had is to keep it under 70.........

 

one thing about them diesels.... at least mine anyways.... there seems to be NO REWARD FACTOR for driving like a granny. I do try to keep the tach under 2,000 when going long distances and stuff. Even when Im just driving around from place to place. I went thru a tank driving anyway I pleased,and then the next tank grannying it.... there was only like 1/2 mpg difference.
So....I just drive it the way Dodge intended........

 

Actually the opposite is true...I talk to thousands of Members here on the phone every year and the one thing that rings true with 95% of them is that once you hit 70 you are losing ground in the mileage dept.

Most of these trucks are geared to haul and as such you take it completely out of the sweet spot when you try to push 7000 lbs at 70 or above. The ONLY real reward factor out there for your truck is to slow it down if you want mileage. You can change the gearing, timing etc and these can help a little as well but if you drive the snot out of it you give away the small gains all that stuff has to offer.

 

When I had my 2007.5 w/ the 6.7 I got around 8mpg in the city and maybe 17 or less on the hwy. With this truck in the city I'm getting about 15 and hwy about 20 to 21. Not pulling of course and below 70. I always keep my RPM's around 1,500 to sometimes to 2,000 on start off from red light.

 

Im really looking for things to do to the engine.... (mods or tuning tips)
