Ok... you can look at my signature and see what i have in my truck. So am I already at the stage to worry about tranny under normal usage ? I don't tow a heavy load and don't do burnouts ( i paid for those tires ).

Me personally I started to worry about the tranny as I was at the dealership signing papers... its a Mopar thing. The trannies suck... especially the autos that are behind the Cummins. Its never too early to start worrying and protecting/reinforcing that tranny.

Don't worry about it , just be prepared to fix it.
You can start worrying when your truck sounds likes it's running harder but your not moving any faster.

Well you could be asking....
"Does that chevy have a heated tailgate?
No, why?
Because your hands are going to get cold pushing it in the winter?

sorry for the sidetrack comments but I constantly worry about my tranny....even rebuilt. Change the fluid at least once a year, or when it's dark, or if it exceeds ________ degrees. Someone please fill in the blank as I'd like to know the answer.

I'll have to disagree with you here. With the Cummins stock they do very well as they should. I know, I know, some have had problems but who doesn't with any vehicle. Mine made it to almost 170K with the last 45K bombed so I can't complain one bit.

I disagree with that also. Stock, most (not all) do pretty well if taken care of. If you put in a good valve body and converter, replace a couple seals inside, it will reliably hold nearly 450 horsepower with no other changes.

If it is in good shape now... do some preventative maint. too help it last! A good TQ Convertor and Valve Body will help you get down the road trouble free up to about 350 RWHP so my suggestion is to call one of the Top tranny companies and get started now!

Well so far it has run like a champ . Since I just recently added the box I was just curious if problems were soon to follow under normal driving. Thanks for all the input.

I would not say worry, but start thinking about tranny mods as soon as you install you first power adder.
For most, a good TC and VB are sufficient.
For others, fully built with billet internals is the only way to go....
Depending on mileage, I would say get a good rebuild (~$1500) then add the VB and TC at that time and you should be good for a long time as long as you keep the fluid clean and keep the temps under 200*. Much over that and your transmissions life fails off dramatically.

You need a tc and a valvebody to hold it better. I'm really getting tired of the stock tc. Not only is it killing my mpg's, it's embarrassing when you have mash the throttle like you're drag racing just to keep up with traffic from a red light.
