Re:Whats the diference......

I can answer Gary's question - The HX35 is bolted together, the HY35 is clamped together. It's kind of a bummer for guys with the HY, they don't have the wide variety of exhaust housings available to set the turbo up for different applications.

Question

And while we're at it, what's the difference between a HX and a HY-35 - is it only the CM size, or are ther other mechanical differences?

No, it does not matter if it is an auto or stick on the 94 - 98 12v's......they all were equipped with the 12cm HX35's with the exception of the first half of the 94 model year which had the very similar 12cm WHC1.

How much more capability would a 14cm or 16cm Turbine housing give over the 12cm housing ??

Where can one purchase a 14cm or 16cm Turbine housing for a HX35 ??

The first question is truely a matter of opinion.......IMO, a 14cm housing will be ok up to about 350 hp but there are those that are running in the area of 400 hp but do have to keep a mindful eye of the pyro. Knowing what I know now, I would not have bothered with the 16 cm housing on my 94.....a wastegated 14 cm housing is a better choice.

A great source for HX35 upgrades is HTT.

Mine had a WH1C until it blew up.. Its got an HX35 now. Dont bother with the bigger housings unless they are wastegated(14cm w/g). IF you modify them much they build to much boost if you cant wastegate them.

The 16 I put on cut my boost w/ the mods in my sig from spiking at 53psi down to 45, I was running the 12cm wastegate plugged, but even when I ran the wastegate it still oversped the turbo so I still got more heat from the 12cm2wg

The 16cm2nw cools off much faster that the 12 after wot when you let off of it too

I have thought about cuttin the divider out and seein if that helps much.

Ditto that, my Dad and Brother both have early 95's with H1C's and 1959 CPL's.
